Shutdown my Win 7 desktop computer last night around 11pm by normal method of shutdown menu, Windows auto Update kicked in downloading 1 of 25 updates with usual message "Do Not Unplug Computer" Just left it to do its thing as usual and went to bed. Went to switch computer on 17 hours later to discover computer is still on and seems what I assume to be stuck in a loop at "Installing 1 of 25 updates do not unplug computer" . I am on a 100mb download speed with Virgin so I don't think a slow download was the problem.

It is still seems stuck at "Installing 1 of 25 updates"

if I switch computer off manually will this more than likely screw up my C: drive where Win 7 is installed?

If it still stuck that stage after all this time then you don't have much choice but to do a hard re-set - That's hold in the power button until it turns off, then turn it back on

When you turn in back on it may give you some bumph about windows not shutting down properly etc. just select start windows normally

With a bit of luck you should be good to go
