Will your town get one

I applaud the idea of marking the sacrifices made and the bravery of those who fought, not sure a paving stone does it though, unless it's going to be laid somewhere like a war memorial where it won't get stepped on all day.

Any way of honouring our boy's and girls who put their lives on the line protecting us from the threats out there is great in my view. Total respect.

Great idea but we're talking VCs here - a couple of gold paving slabs doesn't seem appropriate to me. A whole walkway painted gold, or even a stretch of road, seems far more fitting.

That was my first reaction too. Is this the best way to honour their courage and, in many cases, sacrifice?

I think the idea is that it will get stepped on every day so we don't forget what they did to earn that Victoria Cross

war memorials are forgotten places for 364 days a year

as an aside it's quite sad that as i'm typing this out on my samsung s4 the next word it suggested after Victoria was Beckham

Exactly

I remember saying something about Johnson Beharry (VC) in the office, and one of the girls said "oh yeah he's that guy from strictly, god knows what he was famous for originally" :shake:

He is indeed that guy from strictly - he's also the guy who when his platoon was ambushed in Iraq, having lost his driving optics stuck his head out of the drivers hatch of his warrior despite all the ordanance flying about and drove them out of danger... and then a few days later when they were ambushed again drove out of an ambush again despite his vehicle having been hit by an RPG and him having sustained substantial injury.

I know who he is and what he did but I had no idea he'd been on tv, I think that's probably a good thing.
