Mornin' folks..
As my budget doesnt stretch quite as far as id hoped (Read:-Wifey will castrate me if i spend a lot at the moment),am looking to get some reasonable "budget" telephoto..
Jessops currently selling the Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 DG APO for £127,and their own brand 2x Teleconverter to fit Canon EF.
Anyone tried the 2x TC on such a lens?
any idea if AF will be maintained?
The TC states that AF is maintained on lenses that are f4 or faster, but im guessing the 70-300 will be at 5.6 at the long end?
600mm for just a touch over £200 is very tempting..
Any advice much appreciated! :)

I've got a Jessops 2x teleconverter.
It really struggles with AF at the long end of my sigma 55-200 and canon 100-200.

Not to mention the significant loss in image quality and light.
Your F5.6 at the long end becomes F11

Personally I say buy the lens and back away from the teleconvertor. With the crop on your camera you are already getting an effective focal length of 420mm. You coulf try a 1.4 convertor, but still expect to loose autofocus (Or significantly impair it)

Thank you all :)
Will stick with the lens only, and perhaps a couple of filters with the left overs.
Right... Off to Jessops!
