It has an EF-S mount

ef-s lenses will only fit xxd cameras and below as far as im aware. xd cameras are EF lenses only

Yep, absolutely correct - there are however a lot of alternative choices that may be suitable. The 1D's are a 1.3 crop (aside from the 1DS MKII & 1DS) & in my experience 10mm will result in very severe vignetting - having the lower crop factor means that unless you need stupidly wide then ranges starting around 17mm may be more suitable?
I am by no means all knowing when it comes to the crop factor & vignetting but the 10-20 was very severe & completely unusable IMHO.
I'd be interested to know which you go for in the end though & how you find the results

It will if you take a hacksaw to it and saw off the protruding 8mm.

.... er No

Thanks for the replies lads.

It's back to the drawing board

I have the option of going fixed focal length i.e.

EF 14mm f/2.8 L USM I know it's fixed but it is 2.8

or I could go

EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM both would be good in low light

What are your views on both?????

Well, I have a sigma 14mm f2.8 and I love it, using it on a 1Ds (therefore full frame) and lets face it, its not a lens you will use every day, but IMHO its a great saving over the Canon L-series, and isn't a hell of a lot worse in quality.. About £500 squid I think for the Sig v £1500ish for the Canon, although I haven't checked recently. My 17-35 2.8 L is a totally different beast, nothing like the extreme w/angle of the 14mm.

What a difference 3mm makes!!

You really cant beat the Sigma 12-24. Bloody useless in low light being f/4.5-5.6, but if you want wide, thats the way to go ;)

Think about getting a quote from Kerso for the 14mm L - you may make a considerable saving on the £1400 / £1500 RRP in the UK
