I'm reading that the Sigma lens when attached to an APS-C image sensor is then essentially an 80mm. Does the D60 have an APS-C image sensor? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere on the net (but something tells me it does, right?).
Yes it does. To get a "true" 50mm lens on an APS-C camera (basically most dslrs) you need a 30-35mm lens, which in D40/x/60 case brings us back round to Sigma and their 30mm f/1.4.....

Dammit! I had a feeling that would be the case. Well, at least the Sigma 30mm is cheaper than the 50. Would it be worth buying it or better to wait it out and hope for Nikon to step in?
Buy the sigma. Nikon will make an AF-S 35mm f/1.4 eventually but when they do it will be very expensive. Possibly around a thousand euros and maybe much more. And there's no guarantee that it will happen in the next two years.
