will slr lenses fit dslr cameras?

What camera make?

Because canon ef lenses will fit canon DSLR's but FD lenses will only fit FD cameras...

m42 mount lenses work well on the canon's, i got an m42-canon eos adapter from ebay for next to nothing and it works a treat

Yes in most cases it depends on your system what you got in the way of glass and what dslr you using?

Canon 500D should take M42 Canon EF mount lenses and also Nikon with appropriate mount.

oh also take T2 mount lenses.

If you can find a EF to FD mount adapter yes but not sure its worth the hassle of fitting FD lenses. to EF mount body.

you can pick up some real bargains here on TP or ebay with EF mount fairly cheap.

Have a little read of THIS Other makes and fittings will be very similar to this , so it will give you some idea of whats needed.
To be honest, Canon EF and EFs lenses are becoming so cheap on here and EBay etc that you would be better sticking to these for now.

I have some M42 fit prime lenses for my Canon and they work well, especially the wider ones, very good IQ, but they do need thought and a little time setting up, (only work in manual)

FD lenses need an adapter which has a correction lens built in to allow for the different focal point. They're OK but the extra glass decreases the image quality and AF won't work etc.
If the lenses are cheap enough...... I bought a 50mm FD lens for about £4 on fleabay, and paid a tenner for the adapter.
I have since bought a 50mmf/1.8 II from Kerso on here, and the difference in image quality is immediately noticable.
