Will prices drop before xmas?

they dont really have sales on DSLR's but i have heard from someone that deals with canon on a regular basis that there might be a little drop in prices and possible rebates. I know its not much use for the sigma lens but might save you a few bob in the new year.

With the continuing fall in the value of Sterling, they may even go up.

I asked the same question recently:

I wouldn't know about Canon, but I asked the question because of the falling value of th epound, and a couple of replies suggest the opposite:
boyth Canon & Sony have indicated that there will need to be some price adjustment to compensate for exchange rate changes. If you loook at the £ against the yen from Dec 2007 to now it's shifted about 40% which is more than any business will have built in as a contingency.

I went into my local photog shop today and was speaking with one of the sales men. The prices of both the Canon and Sony will be going up on Jan 1st :(
To give you a idea the sony A200 is going up £40 on Jan 1st from £279 to £319.

Do they normally have sales on dslr's? or say 10% off at jessops or jacobs as all i see at the moment is £10 off :(
I'm just checking prices, and I see the £10 off is no longer available. It could be replaced with something better, or it could've been done due to exchange rate pressures.

to be honest not really

there is no really good time to buy anything

i want a SB800 and its now £240 still

but earlier in the year in may it went down to £201.

but hey thats life.

I would go for it now before the extended warranty offer ends
on the mk3.

Everything I hear, including from Shop salesmen, was that DSLR's will be going up in price in the new year, mostly due to the poor pound(£).

The exchange rate changes must surely start feeding through eventually.

No doubt all the big multinationals are well hedged against it for the time being - how else can Renault afford to be advertising 32% off, a £20k car for £13.5k, they must be desparate!

Was just looking at replacement inks for my new Epson r2880 A3 printer...

Absolutely shocked to see the price increase of the printer itself

A few weeks ago, Camera World were doing it for £399.99, Warehouse Express had it for £440. As CW were one of the list of places WE price matched to, I chalenged it and WE offered it to me at £400.12. which I duly accepted!

Anyway, while on their site, price is now £485 and CW £479.99, so assume the 10-20% price increases across the board are now starting to happen due to the poor exchange rate :gag:

I was in Calumet a few days ago and was told that Nikon gear would be going up early in the new year by as much as 15%. This is in response to the falling value of the pound.

Chris :)
