Hi. I'm deliberating whether to buy the Sandisk Extreme III or Ultra II 4Gb to use in my D40x SLR. The question is, will I notice ANY difference when using the camera between the 2 cards?
I am sure someone will come along and point out that one is faster than the other, but as for noticing any difference in normal day-to-day use, I doubt it very very much !
Put the saving towards something else, like maybe a remote release, which is something I rated as of low importance until I got one !
I've got an Ultra and an Extreme SD card for my DSLR, and it the Extreme is noticeably quicker to display the image on the LCD after a shot is taken. I'd have to disagree with the earlier poster and say that for the sake of a few pounds having the best there is, and the extra speed is worth it.
OK, my comments were taking into consideration the OP's camera, and him saying "when using the camera"
Yes, the cards are different, but will his camera really show much difference between the cards ?
If the write speed of the cards (either of them) is faster than that of the camera - then no, you won't see a difference, because the camera is the pinch point.
If the camera is faster than the cards, then the faster card will be slightly faster - how much depends on what is being shot, what it is saved as and the burst rate.
At the mo with an Extreme 3, photos (in RAW) download in a flash, so to be quite honest I don't mind waiting another 30 seconds or so for a slower card to d/l.
Plus, i fancy getting a D200 soon so I'll most likely be having to change from SD to CF anyway... I think I'll order an Ultra to keep me going
