forgive my ignorance but im a bit confuddled. There are currently price rises, check. But there may or may not be a d400 on the way? if there is a newer model then the d300 should start to drop in price?

Any idea of timescale? 6 months, a year?

I don't think the question makes any sense!

"forseeable future?" - no one here can see the future.

There is a D400 coming. My guess is that it will be priced more than the D300, but below the D700.

I'd say all bets are off price-wise, and its not even worth guessing. £1699 would not surprise me at all, D300 staying around £1299.

But your guess is as good as anyones, as no one knew the D3X was going to be £5k, not even the people testing them!

i just meant if people know another model is due out do they know how it affects the line up, im not sure how much folk find out in photography industry compared to say the bike trade. Wondering if i should aim for the summer to buy one or hang fire until the autumn but seems like its a total guessing game

IMHO you should try to get a D300 used, before the price hikes hit the second hand market.

I don't think prices are going to drop back to last years levels, even when the currency regains strength. Bearing in mind - for consumer electronics price rises as opposed to price erosion is practically unheard of.

I think it's all based on the weakness of the £ against the Yen.
That's all there is to it. The D90 is a little more than the D80 was at a similar age, but that's bound to be currency related.
I think that if a D400 comes out most D300's will be gone, so it'll slot into it's older brothers price bracket.

theyre a grand at jessops new but i guess refurb is as good as new. ta for the info

I would get one now before the price goes up, I would expect they will be £1150-1200 by the end of the week as they must be one of the few still selling at £1k

well one went for 700 2nd hand on here, a warranty would be reassuring but for 300 quid more...tbh i dont have the cash right now and might be forced to watch the prices climb

It will be a good while before prices come down, if ever. D300 is a solid camera and if you can get a used one at the kind of prices quoted here, it's a no-brainer - get it!

get thee behind me satan! ive just laid out 350 quid on a lens and my gf is watching to make sure a credit card doesnt enter my hand, almost a grand and a camera body twice the size of the d40 might be noticed

Jessops were doing them last week for £799.....

Everybody was doing Nikon cheaper last week, keep up :D

hmm i think she'll know the difference. i cant justify a grand on a body when ive only had a DLSR for a few months anyway, ill save up and take the hit come the summer.

unless one comes up on the classifieds and i can sell a bike back in the UK....:D

yeah but lce want 899 for their used d300s...

em flash can i have a link please :D

They were in the clearance lists on the website, but the price is only available instore. They were selling them on Ebay at £640, but Filterfantastic etc kept snapping them up......
