Will a Canon Film Lens fita Canon Digital SLR? Please help!!

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to purchase a Digital SLR, I am swaying towards Canon as thats what I know and have always been pleased. Also I've done a bit of research and looks like the reviews are pretty good.

I have already got a Canon Film SLR lens, does anyone know if this will fit my new Canon or do I need a converter? Would this affect the quality of pictures?

I'm currently looking at the 500D, 50D and 40D. I'm hoping to get into Wedding photography, so I am needing a fair amount of kit.

So long as you are trying to use a lens from an EOS film camera you will be ok.
AQ series (AE-1 etc) lenses (FD) wont work without an adapter and they wont be worth using (for wedding photography) as they were mechanically activated and EOS lens are electronically operated.
If you have EOS lenses (EF mount) they will effectively be 1.6 times their focal length because of the crop bodies you are looking at purchasing.
Some of the older lenses e.g. push pull zooms arent designed exactly for digital bodies and as such flare a little more than the latest designs, but they are much better than the modern kit lens in terms of image quality.

Of the 3 cameras I think I'd buy 2 off 40d as you will need a back-up camera and tbh 2 off 50d arent really worth the extra money (I have a 50d)
