I'm after a couple of reasonably expensive lenses and on the models I want this store comes out well priced with a 2 year warranty.

Reputable? Any good or avoid?

I would normally just take the plunge but the store I originally ordered from kept me hanging on for weeks and I eventually had to ask for a refund which I'm still waiting for!

My local camera shop, I've always had first class service, I believe they are very good for mail order, something I've never needed.
They are a small independent North West chain and can offer some good bargains. Besides new they have good stocks of s/hand items.
I'm in no way connected with them, but have used them for over 20 years so can recommend them for good knowledgeable service as well as good deals - far, far better than the other high street chains!

i ordered my Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM from them. Very Quick Delivery and Well packaged.

I've used the ones in Southport, Preston and Lancaster and rate them highly, especially the Southport and Lancaster ones. Knowledgable and friendly staff and good prices, some good used bargains too.

They are a reputable high street store not some two bit internet importer

Very good, very helpfull and knowledgable, def recommend. I've used Blackburn shop on several occasions and been very pleased

I bought both my cameras from their Burnley branch.

Knowledgable staff and excellent service. I'd highly recommend them.

Janet

Couldn't fault their mail order service, I was one of the lucky ones to get the free 580 flash with the 7D, they certainly know how to package your goods for maximum protection.

Good staff, well informed, not always the cheapest but them have first rate customer service and if they dont stock and item they will do there best to get it ordered :)

I bought my 70-200 F4L from the Bury (I think?) branch a good few years ago. Had to go through 3 before I got a good one (front element scratch on the first, broken focus motor on the second) but they changed each one without question. I'm sizing up a 7D at the moment on they're on my shortlist.

I'd definitely buy from them again.

I use the Blackburn shop and have always found them good to deal with.

Thats one of the lenses I'm after :)

Thanks everyone for putting my mind at rest, I have originally ordered my 17-55 from Martins well over a month ago and I'm still waiting for my refund. Had shocking service from them, told the lens was in stock only to go back week after week. Have now been waiting 8 days for my money back :(

Wanted to check before I ordered from a smaller 'independant' again.

I use the Southport one. Got to know one of the staff there who is very helpful. Their prices are higher than 'tinterweb, but I get a lot of advice in return. They don't seem to do pricematch, so it's a trade off - how much is a good relationship with a local shop worth?

Yeah shame they aren't on quidco or topcashback as well. I'm after the 17-55 2.8 and the 70-200 4 IS. Would you ask for a discount for buying two lenses?

I did, and got a bit, not a lot, off. Talk nicely to them, and they'll let you take the lenses out for the weekend for a trial.

They're my local camera shop too, although I usually end up having to go to the Preston store when want to actually buy anything as the Lancaster one has relatively little in stock (at least that I want/need). :)

Got my D300s and 70-200mm f/2.8VR from them. In the Lancaster and Preston stores very knowledgable, very helpful, and always happy to have a good chat.

I've used them once and their service was fine.

They sell proper cameras as well if you want one..... German better than
all that far eastern stuff :gag: i.e. Main Leica Dealers :D

Only joking all my stuffs Jap. anyway :cuckoo::D

I found the Carlisle lot to be well-mannered, not clueless, happy to help.
They were happy to hang around after closing while I spent my £350 but then you would wouldn't you!
I had the bloke fiddling with big tripods for a good half an hour yesterday.
I would shop there again if the price difference is about 10%, definitely.

yeh carlisle one was a bit clueless but atleast they were chearful and tried to help!

preston was is good, staff are reasonably knowledgeable and ive bought camera body and a compact as well as bits and bobs from them, the prices have been cheaper than most highstreet retailers when ive bought stuff. cheaper than the jessops store when i bought my 50D

I've used both Bury and Southport branches and have nothing but praise for them  Perhaps they're not always the cheapest! but sometimes they do some decent offers and their staff are always helpful
