Hi Guys love shooting wildlife photography and birds could any one give me some advise on which lens would suit me better i use a canon 50d my budget is around the two thousand mark but will save more for a better one if needed cheers

If you are willing and able to splash out I would go for a 300 2.8 with a 2x converter. Take a look at so of the bird shots Roy C is taking they are beautiful. Yes it means a bit more saving but saves you buying twice.

The 300 2.8 with a TC is a fantastic lens for birds. Here's a 100% crop from a shot with the 1.4x TC attached.

If I were you I'd look at getting a second-hand 100-400 to use while you save the extra cash. When you're ready you should be able to re-sell it for a small loss (or maybe a small profit).

For around the £1200 mark you could get the Sigma 50-500 (Bigma), which is a favourite among birders. The glass probably won't offer the best IQ opposed to Nikkor/Canon L (you get what you pay for) but it is a popular stalwart.

For that budget i would be going for the 100-400L, great lens and alot lighter than the siggy 50-500

Agreed with the 100-400mm suggestions, it's a great choice, such a versatile lens with excellent IQ to match all for a very reasonable price IMO. It won't cost you anywhere near your budget meaning you could always use the spare cash for other lenses/equipment etc.

Ditto on the 100-400L unless you really want a prime.
