Hi
Just bought a Nikon 70-300mm VR lens to try and do some wildlife photography.

Does anybosy recommened any type of Filters to use to photograph Wildlife?

Thanks
Sam:wave:

No, keep filters off for that job, but make sure your lens hood is on, Sam.

It's always wise to protect the lens, however I'm not so sure that a UV filter makes a great deal of difference with a DSLR thesedays, although I'm sure others will disagree with me. If you go for a UV filter buy the best you can afford, you don't want a weak point that's going to reduce the quality of your images.

The lens hood is deep enough to protect the lens from smacking into something.

The filter/no filter for protection rears up quite frequently. There are folk for it and folk against it.
I have been for it in the past, but for a while have opted not to put any additional glass in front of a lens if I can avoid it.
I keep a lens hood on and the lens cap until I want to prepare for a shot.

Yep, no filters required. Doesn't stop me using a UV, though - but I'm in the 'protect the front element' camp rather than the 'degrades outright optical quality' camp. Interestingly, it's one of those arguments where both sides are correct....

For me, no filters!

Afraid I just can't make my mind up, go UV on a 80/400 and nothing on my 70/200 - however, he filter on the 80/400 didn't stop it getting damaged with I let it slip to the floor!! I suppose it depends on what you're taking - I would see the benefit of fitting one on say something like a rally special stage - but there again it a bit of gravel would probably go through the filter and front element!!
