Wild camping in skye

looking to go to skye in august due to having some time of work :)
i know in england its illegal to wild camp, but have read that in scotland that is now legal

is this true?
has anybody had or heard of any problems with wild camping in skye

any info much appreciated :thumbs:

I've done plenty of wild camping in the Lakes/Wales/Pennines. Never heard of it being illegal. Who told you that load of XXXX

The legal situation is different in Scotland than it is in England and Wales.
In England and Wales, there is no legal right to camp wild and, strictly speaking, permission should be sought. This is, however, impractical.

Camping any where in England without permission is illegal. Though the offence is civil and not criminal. I always thought it was different for Scotland, not sure that it's anything new :shrug:
 
It's not illegal to wild camp in England and Wales, we just don't have the legal right to do it because the land is in private ownership. Seeking permission or just being discreet usually means you can camp without any issues. Only stay one night, take your tent down early, don't leave a mess or have a fire and you should be OK. As a National Trust warden I would let people camp on NT land if they followed those rules.

Exactly, so doesn't that make it illegal?

But I agree, I manage 3500 acres of land, and as long as they're gone by the morning with no fires or mess, then I turn a blind eye. I think you'll find this the case with most land managers if you show a bit of courtesy and responsibility :)

You got it spot on:clap:, ive wild camped so many times :naughty:
 
I should also have mentioned - this years long cold winter could well mean (touch wood) less midgies in July and August !

Scotland has got a much better atitude to Wild camping.

One of my friends was camping in the back-of-beyond and it **** it down over night, the following morning the local farmer turned up with some dry newspapers so he could start a fire & warm up :clap:
