I am going on a trip later this summer, I will have no time to upload photos from that Day. I am looking for a wifi type of SD Card. During my research I found this type of card

http://www.eyefi.com/

If you have used them before please let me know if they are good or not. Also if there are other brands out that that I am night finding.

Thanks

Hi

I use the Toshiba flash air one with my xf1 and happy with it. Works well with JPEG but not RAW.

I have used both Eye-fi and Tohiba Air and they can be flaky at times. I stopped using them when I got a Freecom MediaShare unit and was able to use my IPad to 'bridge a normal SD card loaded into the Freecom unit and send the files back to a Samsung 1Tb portable HD or upload to the cloud (ICloud/Onedrive) with the IPad. (also send direct via email. The Eyefi X2s are now with a friend on long term loan and the Toshibas are with my niece in her EOS650D and linked via her IPad mini to iCloud and Facebook.

I now use Cannon Connect for my 70D and 750D via my android tablet to the cloud - neater option after using wifi cards.

Those using CF cards will find that the latest Toshiba Air SD cards in an wifi spec CF/SD (CF1) converter WILL work fine. I have tested this combination in a 5c, 7D and all the xx series up to the 50D. My last Toshiba Air card is in one of my EOS M bodies.

Toshiba have both iOS and Android apps. I have all but given up on EyeFi and not tried the Transcend wifi enabled SD cards.

I no longer need to carry a laptop and, if needed, can do som PP with LR on the IPad.

I also have an unlocked Osprey 2 mini MiFi with an EE card on 20Gb monthly or Three Ireland card with 'all you can eat' accounts. All the Freecom/Samsung/MiFi stuff sits comfy in my camera bag along with the IPad. A one bag solution.

I have an eyefi mobi card, it's great! I even use it in my wifi enabled Fuji X-T1 as it has more features. It's the second eyefi card I've had as my first eyefi pro card unfortunately failed after around 18months.

With my eyefi mobi card I am able to add the ad card to a local wifi network and transfer images between camera to computer, iPad or phone. The card is also able to create its own adhoc wifi network so your computer, iPad or phone can connect to the card directly. I use the latter more often as wifi networks need to be set with the ad card plugged into the computer, it's a bit of a faf.

There are also options of how to transfer images from the card, I use two options for different reasons.

Upload all - every photo taken is transferred.
I use this when I'm doing a photo shoot with a client. Usually newborn shoots. The parents can see the images as I take them as I setup auto import in Lightroom to watch the same folder as the eyefi card is saving images to. This way all images are imported immediately and have my preset applied on import. This blows my clients away every time, really hits that wow factor.

Upload selected images - only upload images you choose.
I use this when I'm out and about so I can send selected images to my phone for if I want to put anything on social media or send to a friend etc. For this method all you need to do is press the protect button when viewing the photo and it will be sent to your device. I use this on my Fuji X-Pro 1 but if I'm using the X-T1 I'd use the built in wifi.

Hope this helps.
Overall, I highly recommend it.

Hi Guys, I just came across this post, as I'm looking for a reliable way to quickly get photos off my 5D3 when shooting events to share quickly on social media. I was at an event yesterday and was trying to use the WiFi in my A6000, which was rather flaky and was slow and quite frustrating to use.

I only need to transfer low res jpgs for social media, so I was considering the the eyefi card, but its pretty expensive, I only need to transfer selective photos, so I was then considering the Toshiba cards, but the mediashare looks like it might be a more reliable option and has other benefits, I assume this is the same device Verbatim MediaShare Wireless?

I'd appreciate some advice?

The Verbatim Mediashare is my first choice 'go to' as mentioned in my previous post but, given your requirement to post pics 'on the fly', the Toshiba FlashAir may be better for you. It will work with iOS and Android devices plus you can leave the SD Card in the camera. The Mediashare requires the physical insertion of the card into the unit.

I tend to use the FlashAir with my Ipad in the field for a quick look-see and the mediashare for transfer of RAW and JPG to USB HDD or USB stick but using Ipad or Android to control the application.

Thanks for the advice @Hugh Jarse I'll give the Toshiba at try and report back.

Good stuff

Make sure the firmware version is the latest w-03 release. It is stamped on the top right front of the card. Earlier versions can have problems with wifi connections to older devicez.

The Amazon listed card shows the current version - which was exactly the on my niece received when I sent it as a gift recently.

I've spend the last couple of hours testing the FlashAir with my Android phone and the card inside my Canon 5D3. I have found that the connection to the phone is very unreliable, 9 times out of 10 it is unable to connect even though I can see that the phone is connected to the WiFi network created by the FlashAir SD card. Once connected it works OK, but without a reliable connection it's not very helpful! I've also checked and its the latest firmware according the the card.

I have tried the official Toshiba Android app and another app, neither of which work in any kind of reliable way, or least least not for me. It's such a shame because these cards seem to promise so much but just don't ever seem to deliver in a reliable enough way for serious use. I am temping to try the Eyefi Pro card and see if that is any more reliable, however I suspect it's much the same, maybe it works better on ios devices :-( I'm wondering how reliable to the connection is between mediashare and you other devices?

Hmmm

I have no problem with the FlashAir Cards at all other than odd occassions of flakiness (I had 4 of them in a 50D in a CF-SD adaptor, a 1200D and 2 EOS M bodies. They all connect to an old S4 or S4 Zoom, an S6 Edge and both an IPad Air and IPad Pro (9.7). Used the official Toshiba Android and iOS apps along with the 3rd party Flash Commander app.

I still use 2 in the EOS M.

Had constant 'agg' with the eye-fi cards.

Have you tried a different phone or tablet? Is the android release up to date?

If you can test it on a different phone and you get the same issue, the card may be faulty. My first card went back as it did not create a 'hotspot' but both my sons, a nieace and grand-daughter use them without issue.

The Mediashare is self contained and the wifi is more powerful than the card.

As said, I use both systems, very happy with both.

Typical

Mine was the other way round!

A friend swears by the Trancend wifi cards.

I cannot get it to connect at all o. The flash commander app either

My initial feeling is, given that you cannot connect with Flash Commander, an app that IMHO is better than Toshiba's own app, my suspicion is the card may be the problem. A test or 2 with iOS kit (IPhone or Ipad) should bottom that out.

My S4 is pretty battered and old, is on Android 4.4.2 and genuinely just chugs along and is great to send pictures via Email, Text, Flikr etc.

I have the wifi enabled EOS750D but the Cannon Connect app can be a nightmare. The pdf manual printed is the equivalent of a small copse of trees! I do like it's control of the camera and remote viewfinder link, remote shutter release and picture transfer via my IPad - when it f^^^^^g works. In a hurry, not often, I have put the flash air card in the 750D and no problem!

Gut feeling is you have a dodgy card but test it. Last thought is whether there is sufficient internal memory on the phone. My 8Gb S4 and 8Gb S4 Zoom both had problems one time when my app list grew and reduced the RAM to around 0.7Gb. I had a search online and the results were to free up space by removing any unwanteds apps. Got them both up to 1.4Gb RAM - all fine. Just a thought. No problem with my S6 Edge 32Gb but I tend not to take that out in the field...... it's more expensive than the 750D!

Given that 'eyefi' has stopped and has since continued 'some sort of support' for the older cards.
I thought I would buy one of the newer Mobi (pro) versions.
On searching several american companies show in the results and one main company here B & H photo video show the most up to date eyefi mobi pro as being 'discontinued'!
I am at odds about now ordering this as I am not fully aware of these and from what I have read they need to be set up even for a direct to laptop/pc (windows) transfer via the eyefi website or have I (hopefully) got this wrong and there is supplied software on the card that configures the computer with the card.
Any guidance on this please, thank you.
