Yes
my router used to sit in the lounge, in a cabinet, and my TV, sky and amp were connected to it using Ethernet cables.
I was having weather related issues with signal drop out, and BT replaced a box outside, and fitted a new box inside, which has a dedicated output for the router, and one for the phone. This was fitted in the hall, where the old master socket was.
The issue now was that my TV etc were too far away from my router.
I had a wifi extender, which I set up near the cabinet, and the TV etc connect to that.
My issue now, is that I get 11mbps from the router, but only 3mbps from the extender, and some movies etc are stuttering.

I was considering an alternative solution, and was thinking about a powerline type arrangement. My question is, is there a way that I can connect TV, Sky and amp to a powerline network without having to by a seperate adaptor for each unit? Eg, one unit in cabinet, with another box connected to it which I can then plug TV etc into?

If they are all in one place you can get options with more than one ethernet out (as well as wifi)
I have one like this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Devolo-Wireless-Powerline-Everywhere-Extender/dp/B00A67I5EK

There are always some situations where they won't work due to some peculiarity of your wiring.
You will also need a spare socket reasonably close to the router (not an extension cable, though you might get away with it)

That's ideal as it has 3 Ethernet connections
How well does it work for you?
Only downside is the price

I have a tp link home plug near the router which is upstairs, another one near the TV and have a cheap 5 port switch which gives me 4 Ethernet ports. Work fine for streaming.

You could also use an old router as a switch.

Hey, great idea. I have a spare router the same as my main one.
So I could buy a basic powerline kit with one Ethernet connection, then run a cable from that to my second router, and plug everything into that?
Would it be that simple? Would I need to Input any settings etc into the second router?

The second router would need to be made in to a switch mode. What router is it? I have done a netgear dg834 for mate which work well with a homeplug.

It's a netgear dgn2200. Currys sell a 5 port Ethernet switch for £6 so that may be better.
Only problem might be the set up of the sockets in the cabinet. They're double sockets, wired with twin and earth, then connected to another socket with a plug, so it's like an extension socket.

Guys
I got this sorted. I bought a powerline kit with 3 connections for my sky, amp, TV and it works great. Cost £35
I used a second powerline kit with 2 connections for upstairs, which my Mac and PC connect to. Cost £30
The reason for using 2 seperate kits was due to the fact that a lot of kits don't work where you have seperate ring mains for upstairs and downstairs.
I could have spent over £100 on a single kit that would, but didn't want to spend that amount.
It works great, and I no longer need my wireless extender.

Robert,

I know you are now sorted, but a mate has also just bought a Netgear 300mbps wifi extender as he was not getting any service upstairs and has said he is happy with it.

Hi Kev,
My netgear extender was ok for surfing the net etc, but when I hard wired my TV to it for streaming, it could sometimes be stuttery.
