Wifi drive recs for ipad

I have a Verbatim Mediashare unit which has iOS and Android apps to link to IPad IPhone and Android units.

The unit has a USB and SD card slot along with a large battery that will also give you a back up power source. The USB slot will take both USB sticks and USB HDD (and USB SSD drives).

You can trasfer files either to internal memory or to external.

I am using it for large file transfers but mainly on my non-wifi enabled bodies whilst I am using Canon Connect via my IPad for the 70D/750D pair for quick view and full download to a USB HDD "in the field". It is this combination I am using on my current trip, thence transferring to my mac mini for upload to the cloud when I get "free" wifi.

It covers my needs and works. I had a Seagate 500Gb wireless portable Hdd but just gave up after 2 failed units and poor wireless connectivity. Newer models may be more reliable.

Sir ,thanks. Do you find it functions without issues?

I have the 2tb version and have found no issues with it so far.

Only thing I could find fault with is that is over complicated to use. It could be made easier for Luddites like me.

Hi Steve,
so say I'm at work I've got my iPad,an external hard drive and this ,i can then view any photos on the external hard drive?
does the unit itself have any storage or does it just act as a go between?
sorry if I'm a bit confused as i never considered this as an option because i never knew it existed lol

Was answering your question and lost the post... will answer again in a while. The light I was waiting for hss just arrived....

Back again....

For £23 the Mediashare is great for working with IPad/Phone and Android equivalents.

For working with the IPad app you get a way to view and transfer all of your shots via the IPad and on to a portable HD or USB stick.

By putting a USB multi slot card reader into the Mediashare USB port, users of CF or MS cards can transfer files to the IPad. With a HooToo type Lightning to USB dual drive

HooToo Memory Stick USB Flash Drive for iPhone iPad with Lightning Connector, USB 3.0 Pen Drive 32GB https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01F3J6SPS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_PrsAxb6SAQDRN

It is easy to move files to external memory.

Essentially my set up gives me portable security out in the wild.

Add in my Irish 3 sim in my IPad with all you can eat data I have the addition of transfer to Cloud Storage available. I am on a trip to Ireland at the moment and my kit is used pretty much 'wirelessly' but I am logged into mobile broadband via my IPad (Three Ireland) and on my 3 UK phone to send this (3 At home).

The mediashare basically means I have a variety of options and, whilst I am currently in a 3G area I have already backed up my shots to my portable HDD. Later, if I find a 4G or 'free' sifi, I will upload my RAW and JPG files to my cloud stirage. I have a laptop in my vehicle but I am not using it. It's an old i5 17" beast.

My 70D & 750D both have wifi connectivity and I have the Canon Connect app on my IPad but the simplicity of the Mediashare bridge when out and about just works. The unit will charge the IPad (once) or phones too.

Just to close it all off, I have a couple of EOS M mirrorless cameras with Toshiba FlashAir wireless SD cards which I can stick in the mediashare or link to the IPad through the Toshiba app!

Might be overkill but I am on a 6 month wander and, having lost pictures in the past, I tend to be over cautious in saving my shots.

My most important lo-tech kit is my note book and 2B pencil... I record dates times places and frame ranges of my shots and scan thee via my Samsung galagy to Google Drive......

Hopefully I have explained all but do ask if you are unsure.

Despite all stated above I will be very interested in a 500Gb Wireless USB SSD drive when it hits the £110-120 mark...

Steve
