Wife wants to buy me a mac????

Sorry, I didn't realise the OP's wife was buying hundreds of computers for use in a company. I thought she was buying one computer for the OP, in which case, information from individuals who have personal ownership of different operating systems seems valid. whereas the experience of companies using many machines seems less so. I stand by my comment that OSX is superior in stability to Microsofts offerings to date though as I said, Windows 7 seems very good indeed. If that winds you up a bit you should relax more :)

you seem to of missed the point a little, we're not saying one opinion is more valid than another. what we were saying is that we deal with macs and pcs on a day to day basis in environments where they are in direct comparison statistically (IT support logs).

comparing 1 on 1 can be a little more limited, for example there may of been an underlying hardware fault on one over the other. saying "oh X is miles better than Y because X was rubbish for me.." can be a little misleading due to the above without knowing all of the facts.

our experiences offer more of an average is kinda what we're getting at lol

Quicksilver
Animal (not really a surfing company)
O Neil

? :p

Ahh, ok surfy company, makes more sense then. :)

Got to say most of my t-shirts are Animal... but I prefer the ski/board side of the business. :p

I chose a PC over a Mac because I wanted to build one myself. Companies add on SO much more for simply assembling it, I estimated i saved just under half.

I have an old PowerMac G4 too and is very easy to run and respectable for its age!

Just It just makes it hard for me to think how much you pay for the shiney white casing and pretty aesthetics...

It is rather difficult to actually compare like for like though. Take my Mac pro, when it came out it was absolutely impossible to build the same PC for the same money. Actually it was cheaper for someone wanting the same spec PC to buy a Mac pro and install Windows on it!!

Remember this was THEN not NOW. Although you can probably do a similar comparison now.

£1700 base model

£1100 2 x 2.66GHz 5150 dual core Xeon processors
£500 Intel 5000x series workstation class motherboard with 8 FB-DIMM slots
£200 1Kw PSU

Well thats all the money spent before we get to the FB-DIMMS, hard drive, optical drive, case, mouse, keyboard, PCI-E graphics card.......

I have built hundreds of Windows PCs in the past, literally! Yes you can build computers cheaper and run Windows and that is fine you can also build a machine that is as quick or quicker but not exactly comparable.
