wierd noises

No its not alliens.

Just started my PC up this morning and am getting this sizzling noise a sound like electrical short i know its not that but it sounds like it., never heard it before.
The system is getting a little on the old side, i have done a clean up & defrag.

Running Windows XP..

Its getting a little annoying.
Any ideas
 
Could be a fan?
Have you had it for long? If so it may have accumulated lots of dust inside and need a clean out...
 
Try all the mains leads, make sure they are fully plugged in on the computer and the screen.
 
I did think about dust, will have to have it to pieces to give it a blow out.

I have had it for some 6 yrs with only one new hard drive fitted...

Yep, thried that, although it sounds electrical i am sure its not..

It's just the IS kicking in!!
 
Yep, may well be, everything is backed up, I do this on a regular basis, been caught before.

I will check your link..

EDIT, poss Stuck Spindle, but its now disappeared, bet it returns....
Dust clean out first...

I reckon your power supply is in it's way out if it sounded like a crackling noise it could be your on/off switch
