My brains totally minced looking ,have £260ish for a wide angled lens .Please can someone help ,it's doing my head in looking .Too much info is bad:bang:

Canon

Tamron

Sigma

Tokina

New or used ...:)

Sigma 10-20mm can be had for just under £300 if you search a bit. It's top of my 2009 shopping list.

I`ve heard a couple of bad reports about the Sigma 10-20mm but I`ve also heard lots of good ones too...

I`m also having a look at the Tokina 11-16mm. Seems like a cracker too...

The lens`s I`ve looked at have all been new, not checked on used, might have a look though.

:)

Siggy 10 - 20 is a pretty cool lens, I got one a few weeks ago and have no regrets. Just over 300 noted from Jessops (quite a decent price for them really).

I`ve seen a couple of pics from the Sigma 10-20mm that have been bad at the edges... oof etc.

Not my pics, just ones I`ve seen while reading about this lens. I`ve also talked to many more people who seem to think it`s a brilliant lens and I have to say, the pics I`ve seen from owners of this lens do look really good.

I quite fancy one too but am a bit undecided. Spoilt for choice I think... :D

I love the Tokina 12-24mm f/4 ATX which (considering that you need to purchase a lens hood for the Canon) is about 2/3 the price of the 10-22mm Canon here in the U.S.

Bought my 450 last weekend and the lens didn't have a lens hood, which i thought was a prity bad show by canon IMO

Yep i've seen that too ,your right about spoilt for choice :)

I'm desperately trying not to buy the 10-20mm, i want it, but do i need it, its nagging at me.

PS, Jessops, use xmas20 as code, £293.18, cheapest i've found.

What else do i need for £300? hmmm, so tempting!

Seems like a good price - worth pointing out that Sigma lenses are expected to rise by 10-15% in the New Year.

I have a Sigma 17-70mm which I wouldn't class as a particularly wide angle but someone has suggested it above. I've never been that happy with it. It's quite soft and slow to focus but it was only about £250 so I suppose for the money you can't expect too much. I can't slag it off too much because I may advertise it for sale on here soon when I upgrade.

Sounds like you should have exchanged it i the beginning - doesnt sound the norm

You sure? It's a cheap lens so I'd say slow and soft would deffo be the norm.

Yes i'm sure. I'd have at least gone back to the shop and tried another.
My canon kit lens wasnt slow and soft so i wouldnt pay £250 for one.

I suppose it depends what you expect from a lens.

Very true, but not all is perfect even when you pay vasts amount of money for a lens.

Sigma 10-20. Had it 3 years, built my career with it.

Found a used Sigma 10-20 for £219

Another vote for the lesser known Tokina 12-24AT-X
Sharp, nice to use, Constant F4, and built like a total and absolute tank.

After all that ,i bought masel the SIGGY 10-20 ,hopefully get out with it tomorrow for a play :)

i've had a fair number of photos published using the Sigma 10-20mm

i think it's a great lens - i think you'll be pleased with it :)

Ive only had a little muck about with this evening .Huge diference to what i'm used to ,really looking forward to a wee outing tomorrow :)
