Depends on how much you want to spend, ideally a tilt/shift for those subjects.
If you want to spend silly money a Nikkor or if you want to spend half silly money a Samyang

so what do you use is the question
what is your answer ?

Irix 15mm f2.4
Manual but super sharp and excellent distorion control.

I don't go for ultra-wide angle. I have a Sigma Art 24-35 f2 for landscapes, which I really like, but if I wanted to go wider I would probably get the Nikon 14-24 or Sigma Art 12-24.

I like the Sigma 12-24 for interiors and exteriors, however for architecture I'd look for a tilt-shift lens. 16-35 is a better 'walk around' UWA range.

I own/have owned all of those lenses. I had the Nikon 14-24 first and sold it in favor of the 16-35 which is my primary WA zoom; it has the distinct advantage of being able to use standard filters. The Sigma 12-24 I own is the previous variable aperture model... I use it as more of a "fun perspective" type lens.

For architecture what you really want is a shift lens...

thanks for the info Steven (y)
im thinking the 16-35 may be the one as you can use filters
there is a new sigma 12-24 f4 art lens im hoping someone on here has it and will share
what it is like in the real world rather than all the blurb in the magazines

I have a pre-art Sigma 12-24. Extremely well corrected as far as rectilinear distortions go and as wide as you can go without getting fishy. Not ideal for filter users since it uses gel type filters behind the rear element, although I believe there are adaptors to use square filters on them.

Another of the issues with the 12-24 and 14-24 lenses is that you cannot shield that giant bulbous front element due to the extremely wide FOV... the lens hood does very little. And because of that, situations where the light is not at your back can be problematic (flare, ghosting, etc).

I've had the 16-35 and 14-24.

14-24 is just a better lens...still suffers with softer edges and sharp middles in a way a quality prime just won't but it distorts less than than 16-35 and just renders better and more naturally.

Personally though I'd look and the Irix Prime if I was doing it all again, or the Ziess 15mm.

And aye a 24mm tilt shift is great. I had one, I miss it.

The Tamron 17-35 OSD is a wonderful lens, give that one a look. I usually suffer from terrible post-purchase regret when I buy lenses, but I never regretted this one (and I bought it at launch price, because I knew I wanted a relatively small wide angle that took screw in filters). However you might need something wider for interiors. Great all round wide angle though.
