For my next lens i'd like to get a wide angle, i'v heard the Sigma 10-20mm is amasing - my friend has it and says its insanely wide (as it's an ultra wide angle lens).

Anyone have any comments on the lens or can suggest others that are better/around the same.

I'd ideally like to spend around £200-£300.

I made a thread yesterday with a similar question. I'm after a wide aperture lens, if you want to read the replies here.

Ignore me; your sig says Canon, which that thread is for a Nikon lol.

In that price range the sigma is the way forward, if you'll go up to £500 then probably Canons own ulta wide is best (it got much better reviews than the sigma) but it is over £200 more.
I'm sure other people will answer as lots of people on here use the sigma with very good results.

Yeah had a look LadyLens, nice photos :)

The Canon is going for like £360 on eBay and the Sigma is going for about £280...might go for the Canon if I get the cash together :D

I'm tempted at that price, just a shame I'm a bit skint at the moment :(

How about the Tokina AT-X 124 AF Pro DX 12-24mm f/4 Lens.

Paul

picked my 10-20 up today, not had chance to play yet, been after it for a while though so it'll be getting some use tomorrow :D

I've had my hands on the EFS 10-22 the last couple of times out... is so bloody lovely - especially with a CPL on it!

I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed one!

lol!

I actually go to University in Manchester...lol...not far from Liverpool :D

Just to make it harder to resist - Canon Bob is a good geezer to deal with, and as I also have the Canon 10-22, I can say that it is worth every penny you give him...

Yes the Canon 10-22 really is a kick arse bit of glass... remember if you have a non-full frame camera you really do need the "ultra-wide" thing, because on a Canon this comes down to being 16mm at the widest.

I've seen the sigma by comparison and its really not as good - forget the price difference. The sigma is "ok" whereas the Canon is "wow!"

I've got the Sigma 15 - 30mm, if the 10 -20mm is anywhere near as good, it'll be fantastic.

Depends what you are trying to achieve - 15mm on a APS-C sized sensor is not nearly as wide as 10mm.

Have a look at this:

Lens focal length 10mm 11mm 12mm
APS-C Horizontal angle of view 96.7 degrees 91.3 degrees 86.3 degrees
APS-C Horizontal field of view at 100ft 225ft 204ft 187ft

Basically, every mm counts in a big way - something you can't appreciate until you actually have a go...

This is an 11mm shot with the Canon 10-22 and a CPL:

Love it!

I have the Canon EF-S 10-22mm and I love it. Not cheap but it really is superb.

I agree totally with what desantnick says though: at the ultra-wide end, every mm counts. There's a world of difference between 10mm and 12mm.

Here's one I don't think would have worked anywhere near so well if I hadn't had the 10mm option:

I will add, there is a bit of vignetting at the very wide end, but nothing you can't allow for and crop/correct out - look at the corners of my shot above which is the whole uncorrected frame. The Canon suffers much less from it than the others.

Another vote for the Tokina from me - sourced it a few weeks ago from a jolly decent chap named Kerso...hunt around on the Forums and you'll see who I mean.

Very wide - especially when it picks up your tripod legs!

Very high quality image, very sharp

I'm happy

Si

^ Do you mean Kerso? I bought a 430ex from him a week or so ago.

That's what it says.....

Well it does now I've edited it - what a wazzock - praise the guy and get his name wrong!!!
