Hi all,

I shall be acquiring a Tamron 28-75mm lens to replace my Canon 18-55mm IS, but was wondering if anyone could suggest a 'cheap' wide angle prime lens. I know that one can spend £500 and get something amazing, but i'm really looking for a cheap option just to cover the wide-angle. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

I brought my sigma 10-20 for £180 used, excellent lens, my favorite, allthough not allways on the camera. I know its not a prime as you asked, but still very good.

That sounds like a pretty good deal for the 10-20. Maybe I will keep a look out for one of those.

correct me if i am wrong, but most primes at ultra wide are fisheye lenses, then again those which aren't fish eye are 14mm or there about.

So for the loss of your wide angle it would be far sensible to have a ultra wide zoom than prime (as you will be fixed and having the move to fit the view).

btw that is a damn good price for the 10-20!

Yep, darn good! I got it off a guy I work with, he'd moved up to a 1D so couldn't use it anymore. Both winners :)

I definately recommend the Siggy on a crop body though.

You should be able to pick up a Tokina within your budget. It is an excellent lens.

I second this
Widely reported as the best in class for the ultrawides

However it is not a cheap as the Sigma going for about £220-250 used

Tamron Adaptall-2 17mm, but I don't know about the restrictions when using with a Canon. If you're at all interested it's for you to find out!

Neither the sigma or the tokina is a PRIME lens guys. They are both ZOOMS.
Yes, I know.
However no specific reason for a prime was given, and OP wants the wide end covered so why not offer alternative advice?
