I'm wanting to buy a wide angle lens for use on a nikon D80
I'm looking at three and would be glad of advice from anybody who has experience of all or one. They are the Tamron 10-24 The Tokina 11-16 and the Sigma 10-20

I haven't used any of these but I'm in the same boat as you at the moment and another option is the Tokina 12-24mm. I have yet to see a bad review of this lens and its about £320 at the moment. I've just had to replace my kit lens so I won't be getting a wide until next year so good luck with your search.

I own this lens.

It's my favourite, ever. Never leaves my body.

ive got the sigma 10-20mm and its never been off my D80, its an outstanding lens but just be carefull with shooting at 10mm and 20mm you do get a bit of quality issues

I own the Sigma 10-20mm and it's a great lens, you can't do anything wrong with it! Very well built, quite heavy but feels high quality and strong lens hood included. Filters are very expensive due to 77mm diameter thouhg :)

Research the 12-24mm f/4 Tokina ATX. This is a wonderful lens with which I have been shooting for years. I use the lens on a 10D, 30D or 40D Canon DSLR as well as on a Canon D60.

It provides great IQ, is built like a tank and is just a generally fine lens.

I certainly have nothing but good comments about this lens and I have yet to read a bad comment by an owner of this lens.

The Tokina 12-24mm f/4 is built for a 1.6x body but, IT IS NOT AN EFS LENS. This means I can use my Tokina on the older Canon D60 body which I had converted to full-time infrared as well as my old and trusty Canon 10D which I still love.

If there's any chance of an upgrade to a full frame body (or a return to 35mm!), I would go for the Sigma 12-24 which gives full frame coverage. Not quite as wide as a 10-20 but once the crop factor is taken into account, it's actually wider when used on a FF body (10-20 on a D80 has the same angle of view as a 15-30 on a FF body).
