Hi all wide angle lens with would be best for studio work,

14mm 21mm Ultra Wide Angle
24mm 35mm Wide Angle

or both, say i would be about 15 feet Max from subject ...and in there face for some others.

Wide angle lenses are not, normally, very flattering for portraiture. They tend, for example, to make things like noses appear bigger than they really are! From the two you have suggested you will get more flattering portraits from the 24-35 although that's still too wide really. Having said that, you can get some interesting and quirky shots with an ultra wide angle (or even a fisheye) but they would be the exception. Depending on your sensor size and the space you have available to work in, a prime between 50mm and 85mm would be a good choice. Perhaps consider something like both a 50mm and the Sigma 10-20 zoom, you'd cover a lot of bases with that combo... Bet you'd use the prime for 99% of the time with your portraits though! Hope that helps a little.

Hi and thanks Foodposion i am taking all this in :)

Kind Regards Mark.

12-24 Sigma? And a film body (or FF digi if you can afford one!). That way you'll have 12 -36 covered (taking the crop factor as 1.5x).

As others have said above, wides aren't ideal for portraits, so get a 50mm as well - f/1.8s are pretty cheap and well worth every penny of the cost - especially if you manage to find one 2nd hand.

to start with my happy pills have kick in so this is the best i can do, i will upgrade in due course why will there be problems with the 400D, basic yes ,will my customers know the difference i think not in the main, that's not brash of me but i am bringing somthing to the masses that only the rich and stupid could buy before and realistic prices, and where i live there's a good mixture of affluence & effluence. just exploiting a market, there is not one single photography studio in town... my daughter attends a drama club and there always banging on about pics for the play, then there all the people who want it but can not afford it, but know someone who has had it, and that makes them want it to, if you think this is crazy you should see my business plan.:):D yes i will be using the 400D:help:

Regards Mark
