Wide angle lens

I agree with above, 17-40L is a great lens for FF, plenty wide enough.
I had the sigma 12-24mm for a while but you do get distortion with it, and the big minus point for me was that you cant put filters on the front due to the bulbous shape.
I think it depends what you want to do with it.

Plenty of pics here of 12-24 http://www.pixel-peeper.com/adv/?le...&iso_max=none&exp_min=none&exp_max=none&res=3

Most are taken at 12mm.. The lens has minimal pincushion/barrel distortion, but it does have perspective distortion. Whether you like the effect depends what you want to do with it...

Thanks for that Andy,i am not sure that i need to go down to 12mm,never really had wide angle.
I really am in 2 minds as to what to do now,i would really hate the thought of getting something which i might not be happy with.
I have made that mistake in the past with other lenses,so not sure.

It really depends what you want to do with it. The perspective distortion adds something to the picture IMHO but the subject has to be right. If you look at the pics in the link, you'll find that they use this perspective distortion to enhance the pics. It isn't just for fitting more in...

Personally, I love the exaggerated look you get at 12mm, and the lens will go to 24mm which is where the 24-105 takes over (although the 12-24 has significantly less barrel distortion).

It's also a lot cheaper. I picked mine up off here for £330inc... and it's bloomin sharp!

Will have to ponder for a while i think.:lol:

Well I did consider the 17-40mm, in the end splashed the cash 16-35mm f2.8. Lot of money but the pictures are something, depends how many pennies you got spare.

Not that many.:)

I would got for the Siggy 10-20mm! Great len's uber wide even on a 1.3 Crop! Really nice build quality and cheep!

Too wide for FF & for my taste.:)

the sigma 10-20 is from the Sigma DC range - while it WILL physically connect onto a full frame camera, the image circle will not cover the whole sensor from around 14mm or wider - i.e. you get vignetting on steroids - more like a photograph taken through a porthole. For the price though, it's pretty well put together, though in fairness, when you compare it to a 17-40L you can see why the canon costs twice as much
