Wide Angle lens Question

Hi guys.

I have my standard lens and also a telephoto lens. (18-55 55-250)

I was looking at some wide angle lens's yesterday the canon EFS- 17-85 is it?

Can yopu advise me if they are any good and worth shelling out £300 for, also what would i really use it for?

Silly questions! But help and knowledge needed! :)
 
Yeah 17 is not particularly wide.. I can also reccommend the Tokina 11-16 :)

Why are you looking at getting a lens but unsure of what you would use it for? :shrug:

Is there some shots in particular you have wanted to capture but been unable to with your current gear?
 
Canon 10-22, Tokina 11-16, Sigma 10-20 are your main options for wide angle on the 600D. There are other lens but these are the ones that get talked about on here.

Although there are no rules as to what they should be used for, like all lenses there is a genre that the wide angles do get used for mainly.

Have a look at my flickr for shots taken with the Sigma 10-20mm.

Hi Kevin

What are you after ?

Are you after an upgrade for your 18-55 lens, then yes the 17-85IS is a good lens and can be picked up 2nd hand at a very good price, the 15-85IS is a newer version and worth a look at, but is more expensive...

If you are after a UWA (Ultra Wide Angle) lens, then the Sigma 10-20mm is a great lens and well worth a look at, I've one and the photos in my sig were taken with it.

I have the sigma 10-20 excellent bit of kit, cost about £350.00 you might get one a bit cheaper now as they've brought out a newer 10-20

And by the time your ready, you may have gone past the minimum requirements and be able to access the classifieds on here.
