Debating getting a wide angle lens for my Sony camera seen loads of 16mm about not sure if that's a good or bad thing ? Anyone have any experience with them or can recommend one ??

you can probably get a second hand one, its really small and light, my mum has one but very rarely uses it :\

Well the 16mm pancake is very small but image quality isn't great.
The sony 10-18 has better image quality and is much wider and more expensive.
Ultimate image quality will come from the zeiss 12mm prime.

Can also choose any wide angle prime on the market and fit it via an adaptor.

The Sony 2.8 16 is fine when stopped down a bit, not brilliant at thee corners when wide open. Best at 5.6 and 8.
It's cheap and cheerful and very compact, so it suits the Nex very well. Full frame equivalent of about 24mm.
Another option is the Sigma 19mm. Much better quality and a very good price. Still quite compact. It rattles when off camera or mounted with the camera off.
It's meant to do that! Full frame equivalent of about 28mm.
I have both and prefer the Sigma as I like 28mm equivalent and the quality is brilliant.
It's fun to have a 24mm equivalent too :)

Thanks for the advice guys think I'll just pick up the 16mm for now as not sure how much I will use a wide angle

One more recommendation for the Samyang 12mm f/2.0. Got mine a month or two back and it's not been off my NEX5R since. Most of my recent pics on Flickr are taken with it. Very sharp lens indeed. :)

Looks like a good lens, hadn't thought of that. Had a look at your Flickr.
I feel some GAS :)
