Hi everyone, I'm look for a sub 20mm wide angle within the budget of £500. What would you recommend? I'd be inclined to consider a used one for better value.

Forgot to add, it's for use with a FX body and would prefer AF.

Would you prefer zoom or prime ?

You could try search for a used Tamron 15-30mm VC f2.8 which may be around the £500 mark.

Here's a link below to (many) images shot with the Tamron 15-30mm, it gets a great write up and the quality of images looking amazing. If I was in the market for something sub 20mm I'd give this lens a go alright;

You have a few options that fall within budget.

Nikon 18-35mm f3.5-4.5G
Tokina 16-28mm f2.8
Samyang 14mm f2.8

All depends how wide you want to go really. The 18-35 is a great lens, takes 77mm filters, quick to AF and has a decent range. It also weighs b****r all too!

Thanks guys. I did look at the 15-30 from Tamron but the bulk puts me off. I know this may sound crazy but I'm really trying hard to reduce the weight of my bag for all sorts of reason, not least due to stricter air travel requirement and long hikes. I know very little about the 18-35 but it certainly looks like a strong contender in my book! I'd prefer 15/16mm wide but I think I might be able to live with 18. With any equipment, there's always a compromise somewhere.

Thanks for both your thoughts and suggestions.

I have the 18-35G and it's a superb lens. Really sharp, good contrast, controls flare well, and as Minnnt says it's very light
