Ever since I read a review of the Sigma 10-20, I wanted one, but now I have the cash, a few other lenses have been vying for my attention, primarily, 3 Tokina`s.
The 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 AT-X 107 DX Fisheye
11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X 116 Pro DX
and 12-24mm f/4 AT-X 124 AF PRO DX

I have Sigma lenses and am very pleased with them, apparently, Tokina`s are built like tanks and have a good reputation. Inevitably, Ken Rockwell prefers the 11-16 over Nikons 12-24!

So, has anybody got experience of these lenses, especially the Tokina`s, I will be using them on a Nikon D300

I notice the Tokina 10-17 is classed as a "fisheye", would this be the same for the Sigma 10-20?

The Sigma 10-20mm is what I went for, but it was a close run between it, Tamron 11-18mm, and the Tokina 12-24mm...

It's a minefield out there - one mans preference is another mans hate:) For me, it was a combination of build, feel, price and the fact I owned a Sigma 10-20mm before, and was more than happy with it.

I went for the Tokina 11-16 and am very happy with it. No problems with build, feel or price.

There are some test shots that I took using this here. There are also some shots in my Gower set on Flickr. From memory I think that these were all using my D80 but I have also got good results from this lens with my D200.

Cheers,

Nigel

A bit OT, I have a brand new Sigma 10-20 posted in the For Sale section.

The Tokina 10-17 fisheye gives a completely different type of image to a traditional wide angle lens and isn't really suitable for day-to-day use. On the plus side it is fun to use and , as Allan says, built like a tank :)

I am assuming this is a Canon fit? I'm looking for a Nikon fit.

Nigel, those are nice shots, do you find it restrictive only having 5mm zoom to play around with?

Thanks Allan. No it's not a problem really as a wide angle. If I can't reframe adequately within the 5mm zoom I can always walk backwards or forwards! I would say that for the shots I take with this lens, it's more like having an 11mm prime and this is definitely not a criticism of the lens!

Cheers,

Nigel
