Hi, after selling my Sigma 24-70 2.8 on fleabay because it was ridiculously soft. Im after a new lens with a budget of about £400 (as cheap as possible though)

Looking to use it on my Nikon d300s and use it for group photos, scenery and in tight spaces.

Any ideas or links?

If its a wide angle then I would suggest Tokina 12-24 f4 - I've had one after owning sigma's 10-20 but of the 2 I would go back to the Tokina 12-24 f4.. I've used it on a D90 & D300s think I have some pics somewhere with it....

There no doubt will be the sigma 10-20 club to praise the Sigma (nothing against Sigma as have owned many of their lenses in the past 100-300 f4 dg ex apo, 3x 150mm f2.8 dg ex apo macro & 1.4x & 2x ex apo dg TC's & a 180mm macro)

But then again its wach to our own but of the 2 it would be Tokina's 12-24 or you could go for their 11-16mm 2.8 (edit: corrected the lens)

Ive been looking at the Tokina you mentioned and also have been trying to find a 10-20 sigma on ebay but havent been to impressed by the quality of the items on there at the moment.

Do you think these two would be the best best for what i want them for?

Is it a wide angle lens you're after, or an ultra wide angle?

I think the lenses you're mentioning are ultra wide.

I use my Sigma 10-20 for landscapes, but generally wouldn't use it for group photos due to the distortion at the edges.

For £400 you could get a Sigma 10-20 and something like the Nikon 18-70 if you're prepared to go SH.

Stretch your budget a little and get a s/h Nikon 10-24? I did and have been chuffed with mine :)

Unfortunately the budget can not be stretched. Im only using money that ive made from selling my gear.

Id like a wide enough lens for shooting in a smallish room but also good enough for scenery.

Im prepared to go second hand with out a doubt. Preowned isnt a problem aslong as its working right and looks good.

A Tokina 12-24 f4 has popped up in the classifieds Tokina 12-24 f4 £265 if your interested in it still - but be quick as there seems to be an interested member already....

Thanks for that. Have pm the person. Is this a sharp lens for an F4?

I had previously used the Sigma 10-20mm before going full frame & quite liked it at the time. I have recently bought the Tokina 12-24mm to go with my newly acquired D7000 and what a difference - I love this lens. The build quality of the Tokina seems to be far superior to the Sigma, was never a fan of that felt like finish on the 10-20mm that got too easily marked & rubbed off, and the optics are fabulous and it 'feels' right in the hand.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this lens.

P.S. there is one for sale here http://www.avforums.com/forums/digi...kon-70-300mm-vr-tokina-12-24mm-nikon-fit.html , looks like the seller may be open to offers.

I managed to purchase the 12-24 f4 that was up in the classifieds on here. Should receive it tomorrow with abit of luck!

Thanks to everyone thats posted here and helped out.
Just looking to sort out a set of cheap studio lights now! ;o)

Muss - great choice. I've had both the Nikon and Tokina versions and both have been brilliant. Much better than the flawed (but popular) Sigma 10-20....

Yeah i read some reviews of the lens and its up there with the 11-16 2.8 in regards to sharpness and practicality.

Received the lens this morning and cant wait to test it out tonight!
