Been using a canon 17-40 f4L and at 17mm taking a group shot (no option enclosed space) the people on the ends are wider than they should be..

Is there an easy fix for distorted ends..

I use Photoshop CS2v9

Not sure if the tool is in CS2, but its in filters>lens correction if it is.

ooer yes... its easy when ya know.. i wouldnt have known that was for that...

filters>distort>lens correction .. thanks Alistair :)

FWIW, the 17-40 has barrel distortion at the wide end, so correcting it will only tend to make the edges relatively wider and make your problem worse. I suppose you could induce more barrel distortion with Photoshop's lens correction tool, which would shrink the edges at the expense of technical accuracy and risk distortions to figures and straight lines that may be present in the centre of the image.

You may better off looking at the Pannini projection with Hugin, which is supposed to handle this kind of problem more elegantly (although I'm unclear whether it requires that you start out with a fisheye image, which the 17-40 ain't).

PTLens is great, though.

Nope.. the lens correction as mentioned above works perfectly... made a slight change and the two end people went from wide to a more natural size and that was that.. exactly what i wanted..

Strange - I checked with a shot of some people at the edge of frame with my 17-40 at 17mm before posting and it did exactly what I thought it would.

Could be it's slightly different with a 1.3 crop compared to FF, I suppose.

Glad it's sorted anyhow.
