Been predominantly shooting wildlife but got a taste for gig photography now. tempted to go for something wide and fast to use on full frame to complement the 70-200 VR (and getting fed up with IQ and slowness of Sigma 10-20).

Any comments on which of the Nikkor wide angle zooms give best performance?
14-24 f/2.8? 24-70 f/2.8? Sod the speed and go with 16-35 f/4? Go longer and supplement with fisheye prime? Try a Tamron, Sigma or (gasp) SamYang?!

personally i would use 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 for gig, which lens to use depend how far back you at.

Personally i favorite on the Nikon 17-35mm f2.8

17-35mm f2.8, 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 is a good setup for most things.

17-35 sounds interesting. Think I'd still end up craving something ridiculously wide from time to time as it offers a really different view to the norm band shots.

Do yu not find it annoying swapping between 17-35 for ultra wide and 24-70 to "fill the gap" to the 70-200? The latter was far too long from the pit TBH even on full frame.

Sarah,

When you're saying full frame, you mean another camera other than the D300 in your profile, right?

Thanks,
Rick

Yeah - been tempted by the Dark Side of full frame, but still us the crop for wildlife (holding my breath for a D400!)

To behonest i don't use ultra wide that often on gig, 24-70 get use most of the time. Unless i'm so far away then 70-200

The Nikon 14-2mm is considered the sharpest wide angle made by anyone.

Depends if you really want to go that wide!

Thanks - I'll give the 14-24 a try. Sounds like a sensible option. Either that or the 17-35.

14 - 24, be mad to go for anything else imo. I'm massively jealous of nikon users for having it :(

14-24 is awesome, really is, but the 17-35 has a more useful focal range for FX sensors. Both are amazingly sharp nonetheless and both are built like tanks.
