wicker_man's 365 Project for 2010 **Finally Up To Date!**

Thanks for the comments, it did take quite a lot of attempts (about 40 shots) and a lot of patience from my housemate!

I also needed to Photoshop the reflection of myself out of the eye, but I reckon it turned out pretty well!

Some sunglasses, taken at a friend's birthday event with a rock vs pop fancy dress theme (I went as Slash from Guns N' Roses!)

The title of this photo is a line from the ZZ Top song, Cheap Sunglasses :)

cool shot.. like the blurred people in the background.. would liked to seen you as slash though ;)

Saw this sticker on a guitar case at the 'School of Rock' jam session today.

Thanks. Here's a picture of me as Slash, not the best quality though (taken from Facebook!) In case you are wondering, it is my real hair (been growing it for 5 years) but unfortunately it didn't seem to curl into ringlets like Slash very well.

Today was the Chinese new year (year of the tiger) so we went to Gunwharf Quays for the celebration event (photos to be uploaded shortly.) Unfortunately, my Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 lens decided to break :( When the zoom ring is rotated, it doesn't actually zoom, so I reckon some gears inside have broken.

Since it is my most used lens, I need to get a replacement fast standard zoom pretty soon, either another Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 or Tamron 17-50mm f2.8.

Anyway, here is a quick macro shot of my old 3rd gen iPod (which still works perfectly well!)

Took this on the way back home from a Gloo Creative Networks meeting that I was randomly invited to. It was for people who do arty stuff (artists, designers, photographers etc) to have a chance to network, meet new people and discuss stuff.

This is my new Tefal frying pan. I thought this was a relevant photo because it was pancake day!

(I know this photo is a little late!)

Thanks for the comments. I didn't start making pancakes until about 10pm because I was busy during the day and had a meeting/social with the university magazine team (of which I am a designer/photographer) and didn't get back until late.

My first pancake didn't go to well, I poured a bit too much batter in so it took ages to cook and broke during flipping. I then forgot to put oil in the pan for the second one, so it stuck and broke. But from the third, it went pretty well! After they were finished, I then realised maybe they would have been a good photo for the day, so I was trying to find something else and decided on the pan!

love the cycle lane shot, great angle!

tefal pans are fab.. all my fying pans are tefal :)

Thanks, that cycle lane shot was actually a very quick one, I didn't want to hang around too long because I was going through one of the rougher areas of Portsmouth. It happened to turn out well after processing- the joys of a compact that shoots in RAW!

To be honest, I haven't actually used the Tefal pan yet, I only brought it because it was on offer. My trusty £6 IKEA one which I've had for the past 2 and a half years of uni life so far is still going strong!

In the words of AC/DC...

In the beginning, back in nineteen fifty-five
Man didn't know about a rock 'n' roll show and all that jive
The white man had the smoltz, the black man had the blues
No one knew what they was gonna do, but Tchaikovsky had the news. He said...

Let there be light, and there was light
Let there be sound, and there was sound
Let there be drums, there was drums
Let there be guitar, there was guitar
Let there be rock!

This completes the series from day 7's photo, Let There Be Light, day 17's photo, Let There Be Sound, day 23's photo, Let There Be Drums, and day 33's photo, Let There Be Guitar.

This is No. 1 Gunwharf Quays, the tallest residential skyscraper on the South Coast of England. It was designed to look like a funnel of a ship (although some say it looks like a lipstick!) I took this on my way home from lectures, it had just been raining and then it suddenly stopped and the sun came out.

My Dad came down to Portsmouth to visit for the weekend. I took this whilst we were in the pub earlier today.

Some shelves full of books in the Isambard Kingdom Brunel Wetherspoon's pub in Portsmouth. Went there with my Dad for some food before he set off home.

great light on the mobile phone shot.. and like the angle of the books, again, nicely lit

I received my new lens this afternoon; a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8. I didn't really have much time to try it out because I had to leave for a lecture shortly after, but it seems great so far.

I went bowling in the evening with the Photography society. I didn't win any games unfortunately, and the woman at the bar couldn't seem to pour a pint of Guinness properly, but we all had a good time!

Thanks, it was very dark in the pub and I was struggling to keep to handholdable shutter speeds even at ISO3200 and f1.8! For the book one, I only had my Panasonic compact with me but luckily there was a nice light in the bookcase and using shutter priority enabled me to get a good shot. I don't like using direct flash and rely on the stabilisation in my Panasonic quite a lot (especially with a maximum of ISO400 and it's quite noisy!)

My new lens, a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8, which I received yesterday. It replaces my old Sigma 18-50mm f2.8, which broke last week (zoom ring stopped working.)

Taken with a 50mm f1.8 lens and extension tubes (just the lens mount and body mount connected with no additional tubes in between.)

Today I was a student guide for the Civil Engineering open day at university. This is basically showing prospective students around the campus, explaining about the uni/course and answering questions.

When I got back home, I installed Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro, on a newly installed 320GB 7200rpm hard drive. I'm still in the process of installing applications and copying data across at the moment but first impressions are good, it seems quite refined and faster (although that may be partly because my new hard drive is faster and it's a fresh install!)

I like photo 53 - the reflection looks great :)
Thanks!

Inside a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lens. I shone a torch into it, and the light reflected from the elements inside.

some great shots there.. the bowling one is fab, bright and vivid with great reflections..

the last one is great too.. nice idea shining a torch into it, very effective!

This is Zurich House, on Stanhope Road in Portsmouth. I took this on my way home, the sun was low in the sky producing a nice light, and I liked the reflection on the glass.

Thanks for all the comments also!

like the angle and reflections of the clouds in the building.. great light

A macro shot of frets on my guitar, a Squier Fat Strat.

like the angle and reflections of the clouds in the building.. great light
Thanks, I had to take it at the jaunty angle to make sure the traffic didn't get in the frame!

Today was the Portsmouth vs Southampton University Varsity Cup. I was one of the official university photographers, so I had to get up super early for the 8:30am coach to the Southampton Wide Lane sports ground. I didn't get back until after 7pm, and have about 700 photos which I am in the process of sorting through!

Part of my third year Civil Engineering course is an individual project, mine is on the robotic total station. I learnt how to use it last semester and made a poster presentation about my task. Since it had been a while since I used it last (before Christmas) I decided to set it up and use it today, to re-familiarised myself with the controls.

A macro of my Gillette Fusion razor, which features five blades (!) I wonder how many their next model will have?

We went on a field trip to Ecobuild today for the Sustainable Design topic of my course. It was an early start this morning, we had to get a 9am coach and arrived at Earls Court, London at about 11am. The exhibition was quite good, and we got a load of free pens and leaflets!

For the trip back to Portsmouth, two people didn't turn up for the coach. After waiting 15 minutes and the lecturer attempting to call them, we left without them- no idea whether they made it back or not! I got home about 7pm and am pretty tired now, got a 9am start tomorrow though!

After lectures this morning, we went to some estate/letting agents to start investigating houses for the next academic year. On the way, I saw this old Chevrolet Advance Design pickup truck (looks like a 1940's or 50's model) which looked like it had been restored very nicely.

On the way back from househunting, we popped into a random record store, and I found Saxon- Wheels Of Steel, and Meat Loaf- Bat Out Of Hell LPs on vinyl for the bargain price of £1 each! Now I just need to buy a record player!

I will be going to Cardiff tomorrow for a Photography society trip, so won't be able to upload any photos until next week.
