Apologies if this has been mentioned previously, I'm new(ish) here, but why do so many feel the need to put the L in red when talking about their Canon lenses?

Surely putting it all in colour takes a fair bit of time? (I feel I have answered my own question there!)

Maybe it's a pride thing? Or is there a black L-series lens we may get confused with? :shrug:

they have the red line on their lenses so they can write anything by red.
play it cool, be happy

Maybe it makes one L of a red (read)? :lol:

as one of the guiLty few
I'd Like the foLLowing pLea to be taken into consideration as my defence before sentencing

a)
I'm dead chuffed that I have some L gLass
sin = pride

b)
I saw someone eLse do it and thought - that's neat
sin = giving in to peer pressure

c)
When you buy a Lens they make you sign a piece of paper that you wiLL aLways show the L in red
sin = Lying through teeth

d)
before I got my first Lens I saw that other peopLe had them and I reaLLy wanted one
sin = envy

ok just direct me to the nearest taLL buiLding, I'LL do the decent thing

(photograph it with my Lens :nuts:)

Its printed on the end of the lens with a red L, why not,

wait a minute i should change my EX lenses to EX

L = Move the decimal to the right

I couldn't figure out why some lenses were in the sub 500 mark and similar range etc were in the four figure mark, the only difference was that some were marked L.. I wasn't sure how an L could make much difference but apparantly so.

Which brings up a bit of a point.. I've never seen any comparisons between normal and L glass lenses to see what the fuss is about?

Anyone care to thread point if one exists or create a thread?
