Why were you sacked (or not sacked)

I have never been sacked but I have handed in my notice three times at the same company - and been talked out of it all three times.

Still with the same company after twenty six years.

(If my boss is reading this, I wrote it during my morning tea break!).

Not so much the sack more of making my life uncomfortable until I left.

So I took my fabrication team with me :D

I got a slap from a female manager, when I was younger, she had a name badge about her left breast.
How was I to know that "Pat" wasn't an instruction?

I've never been sacked, but made redundant a a few times, over the years, no regrets as I always found something "better" afterwards.

I've been sacked a few times, usually for good reason, but this was in the days when a photographer could leave a job and start another one next day...
I was once sacked for a reason that was never stated, but the reason was obvious because a lot of stock was showing in the books as missing and I was asked about it... I always arrived for work early and left late, so the finger of suspicion pointed at me. That hurt a bit, but I got over it because the very next day I joined a competitor at nearly twice the wages, then a few months later the manager who had sacked me was himself sacked for theft :)

Over the years, I've had to sack quite a few people. Whenever I've done so, it has been entirely necessary and I've never let it worry me.

One of my wife's friends had her husband's name tattooed just above her bottom in the usual place. And yes, you can guess his name. :naughty:

I once sacked my assistant for having an alcoholic drink during a wedding shoot.
The bride then threatened to sack me unless i reinstated her as she gave her the drink.

Moral of the story : Dont employ your daughter as an assistant and dont shoot a friends wedding.

I've been sacked twice in the last 4 years by the same department in my place of work. I can't say why as i'm currently fighting this one but what i will say is i won last time and walked back into my job with a handsome payout and a smile from ear to ear and it will be the same this time around. Roll on the 19th May.

as a slight aside I did a lot of hiring last year, and saw some epic things of this nature written on applications under 'reason for leaving last employment' - my favourite two being "because my line manager is a collosal ringpiece" and "fired for shagging boss's girlfriend"

I used to be assistant to a photographer who literally ended up totally p***ed at every 'do' that we shot - most of which were society weddings...
Eventually, he was sacked but meanwhile I learned how to drive, simply because someone had to do it when he couldn't stand up, but that's another story.
 
Sure was mate. I was always confident but there's always the slight doubt the panel will side with the bosses over me. Fortunately for the second time in 4 years that's not the case.
 
Never been sacked but came very close and had a temporary demotion as a result. In a previous life I recovered a mannequin from a burglary at a fashion store. I then used the said mannequin as shooting target practise following after which I booked the mannequin in to the mortuary and registered the 'body' in the official mortuary register.
 
I've got to ask; Why? Why would you do that?
 
Young, naive - can't say say why as there is no real reason other than it was a long time ago in very different world.
 
When i worked at Foxs biscuits a lad got sacked on day shift for some reason to do with hygiene, he walked into the factory during a night shift and sabotaged loads of kit by throwing spanners etc, etc down all the hoppers on the mixing level which jammed up the rollers on the machines on the next level down, no real damage but a real ball ache to sort out, he left one plant unscathed or at least we thought he did, that particular plant was running Bourbon biscuits and yes you guessed it, he did a dump in the hopper which went un noticed until biscuits came out of the oven some 50-60 metres further down the line with an odd smell
 
He has got severe mental issues in my opinion. What a w****r.
 
not sacked but suspended ona trumped up charge. 8 years owrking for family business in IT, the sales guy got commission perks, even though i dd more slaes than him, the guy in shipping got % cut of the savings he made on packing/ delivery costs ( average an extra £200 a month in hes pocket ) even though i covered for him when he was on holidays. when the boss was off i would do all the stock takes, ordering from suppliers, updating the system, news letter , etc etc.. and nothing. so i brought the matter up with him and as part of our purchases Seagate ran a rewards scheme so he said i could register for that and claim the rewards from seagate purchases.. woop de woop... over a period of about 4 years a total of £450 in amazon vouchers.
anyway back in 2013 a query came in regarding changes in the seagate rewards scheme and so the boss logs in and see's they have paid out over the past few years and wants to know where its gone. so then i get accused of basically stealing from the company and they suspend me. this all coincided when i had put in a health and safety complaint due to the fact that instead of correct height and depth desks we had cheap kitchen worktops bolted to the wall which due to being to high i ended up with cubital tunnel syndrome ( which i still suffer from ).
so anyway suspended ona trumped up charge despite having email proof stating i was entitled to claim the rewards i was told to clear my desk without touching the computer ( not giving me time to get the proof in the email ) and sent on my way until further notice.
this was on the frisay so on the monday sent them recorded letter giving notice from immediate effect and that i would be seeking legal advice.
they tried to come back at me with my contract but i already had that at hand and it had so many leaks in it it was essentially worthless so there was nothing they could do.
still p***es me off to this day after id given them 8 years ( was run by a google obssesed guy who anything that was said to him he would look up first and wouldnt believe until he had read it on google ) and hes mad lazy italian wife who had 3 times blown there life savings and almost drove the company into bankruptcy, , supposed to be the accounts manager but couldnt add up 2 + 2 and spent each day playing games on facebook.
a polish sales guy who couldnt make a sale to save hes life and the guy in shipping who was a back stabbing two faced little sneak.
oh and the last 4 months i was there i was supposed to get 30% of the commission (thats 30% of 2% ) and the sales guy got 70% of it ) and they messed up and were giving me 30% of hes 70% instead of 30% of the 100% figure ( hope that makes sense )

so all in all a total joke of a place. however it meant my income went from 36k a year to zero ( as i handed in notice i couldnt even claim anything ) and still struggling now to recover from the whole mess of the situation.
 
I left a job in media sales at the end of February this year after the 6 month trial period had ended, the director let me go based on my performance not being where he expected it to be. It was supposed to be a trainee role, with a view to becoming a fully fledged, experienced member of the team within a year or two. Came as a bit of a shock when the only 'training' given was being told to shadow the existing staff, who were all busy anyway, and being sent on a couple of afternoon courses in London (you know, the ones in hotel conference rooms with awful coffee).
Needless to say my performance suffered and I couldn't get my teeth into the role at all. Let's not get into a discussion about the made up figures for circulation & readership in their media info... No wonder so many potential clients ran a mile when we had to admit that the magazine circulation wasn't ABC audited :rolleyes:
