So; Topical talking point? In light of all the 'he shouldn't have been sacked for just that' postings:

What did you do to get the sack?

Or; What did you do that you maybe should have got the sack for?

Or; What have you sacked someone for?

I've always been a fairly good guy, but I'll see if I can think of anything from when I was a bit 'young and daft'.

Obviously devoid of enough detail so as not to breach major confidences or admission of serious law breaking. ;)

never been sacked but had a contract not extended cause my boss was a c*** lol

I was a contractor once and due for a renewal and made a few jokey comments that one of the senior (ish) guys had a habit of eating very loudly. He took offence and my contract was suddenly not renewed

Never been sacked, but came close a few times. Changed workplace since then (my own choice) and I'm now working in a small family run bodyshop. They are lovely there and every Friday the boss's wife brings in a massive casserole for lunch with homemade bread :D. My other boss for gamekeeping may as well go back to primary school. If I get fired by him it's probably because I'm not being stupid enough. When I asked him for the job he ordered me to rate my "inner child" on a scale from 1 to 10...

Been sacked three times... But in context I have had 27 jobs.

1. Working in a DIY shop in Preston.. Had to go to chorley to pay a fine as already on a suspended sentance.. boss said take time off and sacked.. well as sacked we prefered to guaranteed prison.. I got sacked (pre sacking laws)

2. Another DIY shop in Preston working in stores.. couple of salesman where outside trying to crush a spray can to see what happened.. I had a go just as the owner turned into car park.. instant sack.. this was a saturday.. went in mon afternoon begging me to come back but already got another job that morn morning. (again pre sacking laws and jobs a plenty)

3. working for DynoRod (eight years) had an argument with the boss in the office.. just the two of us and he sacked me.. took him to a tribuneral and won.. got enough to buy a new car and had another job :)

3 from 27 not that bad.. :)

I was accused of fiddling the till in a pub. The landlord sacked me and another guy and threatened us with the police. The other guy was crapping himself, I went to the police and told them about what had happened and why I thought I'd been sacked. I hadn't been fiddling the till, but the landlord had been fiddling the books and to some tune. He got a nice holiday courtesy of HMP ;)

Also got sacked once for working behind a bar when I was 16, apparently I had to be 18 or older ... oops.

I have sacked a few people though, never fun, one was for editing a live database of financial info in a building society after disabling the journals and logs ...

I've never been sacked per se, although I was washed out of officer training with the report " would make a good combat officer but is unlikely to thrive in the peactime army" - which roughly translated as ' not good at taking stupid orders, likely to f*** about if bored, can be a gobs***e at times'

I was also expelled from school because my english teacher hit me round the back of the head, so I got up and hit him back

In a previous job I once sacked someone for crashing a company vehicle into the front of a brand new bmw while turning round on a garage forecourt and then driving off, and then lying about it when questioned (if he's come clean with me i probably would have only gone the warning route but he compounded his error by denying all responsibility when the BMW dealership had caught him clearly on CCTV getting out saying 'oh f***' then getting back in and driving off)

That said a mate of mine who used to work for Customs and Excise (as it was then) had the best story when he got canned (from his position but not from C&E in toto) for practicing handbrake turns in a senior officers brand new car, and inadvertently putting it off the side of a dock

I've never been sacked but got close once. It was in Hamburg, my driver stayed with the LaRo whilst I went to party with a British colleague/officer. On the way back, we noticed my driver was asleep in the back and we decided it was funny to hire a lady of the night to give him a nice wake up call ;)

The chap wasn't best pleased and complained. Definitely not the best of moments, not a great secret and my main punishment was that next time I had to bring my superiors when I went out ;)

When I went to civvy street I did just that....

Never been sacked but I've sacked quite a few - mainly for fraud when I was working in internal audit for a retail company.

The one that sticks in my mind, was a particular store that was suffering astronomical stock losses week in / week out - far more than you'd expect through "normal" shoplifting or human error in record keeping.
So we had concealed cameras installed to try to get to the bottom of what was going on (I suspect that's probably not allowed any more)

Turns out that the manager's brother ran a market stall selling women's clothing, and when we reviewed the hidden camera footage we found a transit van pulling up outside the stockroom doors in the early hours of the mornings.
The manager jumped out and rolled up the stockroom doors, then rack after rack of clothing was being wheeled out and into the van.
The final piece of the puzzle that led to prison time for both of them was rails of our clothing with the labels cut out being confiscated from the brother's market stall.

Pair of complete and utter idiots!!!

Back in the old days when I worked in a paper mill I was sacked at 10am on a Saturday morning for refusing to work all day ( I wasn't contracted to work overtime). When I got to the clocking off station the security guard told me the manager had been on the phone to him to ask me to go back to see him. When I returned he apologised for sacking me and asked me if I would consider working all day. I refused and said I would only work until lunch time as agreed. Ok he said, see you Monday. I stayed there for a further 12 years.

Many moons ago I blackened a workmates 2 eyes in work after he refused to pay back money he was given as a loan when all his friends were there. Took him away and had a nice chat about his actions. Came back and say beside all his friends and said" it's ok he has now given me the money back and I'm sure he will be back when his eyes re-open". Was lucky as they never said anything though which I think was only because I sat beside them all calm and faced them, then went to my own area and continued working- was on edge all day with management asking all sorts of questions as to what happened to him. Never go sacked.

I was sacked for basically asking to transfer to a different prep line. The manager was a bit of a lunch time drinker and i'd obviously asked for the move on the wrong day. He didn't last there much longer himself.

I was sort of sacked by Howard Kendal when he managed Blackburn rovers ,I was at the club under Jim smith and then told I was not needed when Kendal took over ,that was my cue to join the Army

Three days temp work at Comet, morning of the second day the foreman discovered a missing item. As the newest person, it was assumed to be me in the light of no other evidence, so he sent me home and told me not to come back.

In the 25 years since I've not once shopped in Comet.

Failed an exam (by 3/100 marks).
Had a profound effect on my life - moved to London, moved from public practise to in-house (which I far prefer), switched from general accountancy exams to tax (which I passed!). In a later job I met my wife and we now have 2 lovely kids.
Silver linings, eh?

Got sacked for questioning my wages, boss got a broken nose, I got paid to settle out of court :)

Never been sacked, though came close in my first 2 jobs for being a little too inclined not to sit easily under authority (never really changed apparently - recently was not selected to go to Africa with the PHE Ebola screening teams).

I've come close to sacking someone for failing to perform adequately after a long period of training. We had 'the talk' and he turned his work round enough to become a useful part of the team - he's now a very competent scientist and went on to better things.

Will never forget around 20 years ago seeing a customer who sold garden ornaments and stone type stuff - one of his guys had two massive black eyes, I asked what happened... the owner said "we caught him with his fingers in the till so took him out back to teach him a lesson, he won't do that again" - Interesting HR policy!

Have sacked a number of people... stuff like fraud.

When I used to fix stuff I was once told to tell a customer that his kit was going to be too expensive to repair and he'd be better off buying a new one. As this wasn't true and the cost was just an hours labour and 15p for parts I ignored the instruction and when I returned to base I resigned a millisecond before I was sacked.

My view was that although I'd worked for companies who'd made an art of ripping other companies off (I once worked for a computer company called Systime who amongst other things made copies of DEC kit) that was sort of ok but lying to and ripping off an individual was unacceptable. It may be twisted logic but that's how I felt.

Telling people their kit was BER wasn't the only dishonest thing these guys did, they also sold used kit as new and "clocked" kit. If I hadn't gone that day I'd have gone another and I walked into a much better job I stayed for 12 years.

In my youth was sacked from a job waiting tables... Annoying tool trying to impress (probably someone elses) wife by snapping his fingers and shouting "waiter"... I went over to him and whispered in his ear "snap those fingers at me once more and i'll snap them in half for you". His reply was to turn to me and snap his fingers again. At which point I made good my promise, and poured his dinner into his lap. removed the works bow-tie, walked out to a round of applause from the other diners and never came back. Never did get my back-pay...

Must be a Yorkshire thing:
As an office junior one of the rota'd jobs was to empty the 'confidential waste' bins, one of my 'colleagues' (same grade - same job) thought it'd be 'hilarious' to look down his nose and utter 'empty those bins lad'. He thought it was less funny when I emptied the sack of waste I was carrying onto his desk. I really thought I would get the sack for that, but I heard nothing. We got on fine ever since.

Came close many years ago when I started a staff union and was given the kind of work that would take forever and be totally soul destroying, so I moved on to another job. As an aside to this, I've spoken to both small and large businesses in recent weeks and they use Facebook to check on employees who don't turn up for work. If it's full of the person out and about having a good time, that'll be P45 time.

I've been sacked once. At that wasn't really a sacking more of a demotion. I was the manager of a recruitment firm owned by a mate @22 and totally out of my depth. It was his first business and I really didn't like his management style. He made me sack a member of staff because she was no good. I disagreed with him (yes she was no good but he offered her full training and then dumped a phone in front of her and a yellow pages and said make some callls) Well he was the boss so I sacked her. I then found her a job and the boss went and charged the company for recruitment.

Anyway. As he was a mate I thought it'll be best we part company before we fell out ( or I put him in a hospital bed)

But I learnt a lot during my time there and I treat people who work for me considerably better than he DID in the early days.

That being said I've had to sack a number of drivers including a couple of mates. Luckily a number of my drivers are Self employed which makes it easier to get rid of the rubbish.

Never been sacked, but was made redundant. Choice probably influenced by numerous arguments with the boss, who seemed to think it was fine for me to work on Narrowboat gas systems despite having no training or qualifications in the matter, and the marina possessing two such qualified people. Oh and I didn't believe in fiddling the time sheets for RCR (River & Canal Resuce) so he got 2 hours pay for 15 minute callouts. Oh and I forgot to put an oil pump in a GM V8 once, a nightmare job that we shouldn't have undertaken in the first place. I expected to be sacked there and then for that one!

I got sacked from my paper round when I was 14 because I organised a strike. When the shop owner told me I was sacked the other boys left the picket line and went back to their paper rounds. So much for solidarity.

I was sacked 3 times from my first job when I was 15 which was assisting with the delivery and installation of white goods/TVs from a local electrical store. It was part time after school and on weekends and the owner decided that he needed a full time assistant, and then he didn't see a need for me. Each sacking lasted less than a minute, until the 4th one which was when the company was closing down.

At 18 I was put in charge of the bonded section of a warehouse. Eventually they brought in someone to replace me as supervisor, after 3 days they changed their mind, after 3 weeks I had to sack the guy for constantly making mistakes. I eventually walked out after being blamed by the owner's son for something stupid, to which I got up and had a go at him and walked out. I don't think he was happy that his dad liked me. They still paid me for the full week even though it was on a Monday or Tuesday.

Come to think of it, I should have been sacked from that warehouse job multiple times. I drove a set of electric fork trucks off the loading bay, operated the forklifts without a licence, would have a cigarette break every hour (constantly getting caught by the boss as he would come out for one), and I once accidentally sent a load of pork chops to an Islamic ship when they ordered lamb and when asked if I knew what I'd done wrong I sarcastically said "Forgot to send the apple sauce?".

Not sacked but probably a precursor to me being unsuccessful when reapplying for my own job (redundancy - never looked back) for about the 7th time in as many years. (Large insurance company)

Before I went on holiday for 2 weeks, had a team of 18 in 3 locations. When I came home had a team of 0 due to a mini reshuffle in the dept whilst I was away.

Got called into office by Head of Department and my manager. Head's opening line was "Lynton, we don't think you are a world class Leader, what do you say to that?"

"F*** me, that's 3 of us in this room then!"

The icing on the cake, couple of years later, the Head of, despite being on a 6 figure salary was escorted off the premises, for being caught fiddling his expenses.

I nearly got the sack when I was an 18 year old chef. Boos called me into the office.

"Charles, Why do you only work 4 days a week?"

My response "Because I can't manage on three"

He was laughing so much he couldn't speak and I served another 5 years or so.

Was sacked once but it turned out I was only being employed to cover someone's sick leave, they just forgot to mention it in the interview, firm went bust not long after and the owner lost his house, that will teach him to cross a wizard ;)

Was once paid to leave a job as well so sort of a sacking with money.

Only ever been sacked once, because I left some customer details in my locked locker, in a highly secure office behind three different security door to access the area where my locker was because it was Friday, I was feeling under weather so decided to leave it till Monday to finish what I was doing, sadly on the Monday I was in a hospital bed and a few days later I was in the ICU, I didn't leave the ICU for 3 months...in that time the company had done locker checks and found the customer details...so I was sacked for a potential data breach...the fact I'd been on the sick for 5 months had nothing to do with ;) :P

Many years ago, the firm I worked for had security cameras fitted. Walking home from the pub one evening with a work mate, we passed the factory and in our drunken state, decide to pull a moonie at them.
On the Monday morning at break time, two of us were told to go and see the director by a very serious looking foreman. We knocked on the directors door and was told to enter, we were shown the video and asked if we could shed any light on the matter. We both cracked up at the sight of our arses on show, but had to admit it was us. The director did a great job of making us feel guilty, but couldn't stop himself laughing about it. Turns out it was a wind up and they had all had a good laugh about it in the office.

Not really a sacking offence, but had us worried for a while

I was once threatened by the sack after calling a lady colleague, "Martini", when her real name was Vivian......she reported me to her supervisor and when I was asked why I referred to her as "Martini" .......and I simply replied "anytime, anywhere and any place"........totally sexist remark in the work place but in my defense I was only 17 and pretty raw around the edges

I got a warning for referring to my role as receptionist at the Student Union as a "woman's job" .... I was 33 at the time :D

the real question though is was your description accurate, and if so did you have proof ;) :naughty:

I got sacked a few years ago literally cos my face no longer fitted in.

Was a good thing really as once we'd sorted things out particularly unamicably and with me having a fantastic solicitor I ended up with a 5 figure payout for the w****r who thought he could do as he wanted!

Which time?

Not the sack as such, but the area I worked in was taken over by a manager that I'd previously had words with when I worked elsewhere. When he took over he had me and another bloke moved out and a couple of his blue eyed boys moved in. I wasn't too bothered, it just meant less overtime. Fortunately the previous manager was still partly overseeing the area within 3 months he had me helping out whenever they were short staffed and within 6 months I had my old job back. New manager wasn't too happy when he realised I was back, but he soon moved to another area anyway.
