Yes
A lot of work goes into making these lenses.

Sorry if posted before and if in the wrong section.

That is amazing, will never moan about the cost of lenses again!

Thanks for that!

A bit more browsing on the 'tube got me to this one showing Canons manufacturing facilities (and showcases the "E-F 500mm F-4-L I-S U-S-M optical lenses" - you'll understand that when you watch it ;)): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkWsk9rXpcU

A good watch! I think everyone moans, but when i see pictures of the 85m F1.2L, The Glass is amazing. Just looking at the lens, makes me understand the amount of work that go's into making them.

Just wow, that was really interesting, Now as others have said I wont moan about the cost of a lens anymore :)

excellent videos, learn something new everyday

Interesting, somehow though I imagined a more 'clinical' environment ... and as for the open container of "Hazardous Material" beside the woman worker cleaning the lens glass!

I cant imagine they would go through that much effort, including the manual labor, for the cheaper lenses, I.e 18-55 kit etc... Surely?

That was a good watch, like they say every days a school day :)

Very interesting. I never really paid much thought before into how a lens was made.

I had visions of some sort of production line.:D

Wow, mind blown.

I think that's a show called "How it's made", which I've seen a few times before but can't remember which channel it's on.

Discovery? (It's shown bottom right on the video).

Hence this threads title I assumed
As in, this is why the pricier lenses are just that:)

This is amazing! Thanks for sharing it.

Yeah that was interesting thanks....

I always thought a lens would be hard to make but did not realise just how hard and time consuming. Makes you look at your lenses in new light and respect them even more

Thats really interesting. Amazing how much work goes into them. Plenty of clips to watch aswell.

it is good information BUT why is it that i pay for a good money for lens only to find out it's rubbished by some people talking about the 17/85 canon

Er, because cheaper lenses tend not to perform as well as more expensive ones. Like almost any product.

As a slight aside, did I see acetone being used to clean the lenses?

If so, would it be safe (chemical exposure aside) to use acetone on "finished" lenses?

Marking, so I can watch later tonight :)

Good video, I din't think that much went into them!
