well I wouldnt say rubbish as such, but it is...limited, shall we say. If you can keep it between f8 and f11, you will get some reasonable pictures, but I certainly found with mine [bought nearly 3 years ago for £160 new] that anything outside these parameters produces soft shots unless the light is perfect...and this is Britain, its never perfect. However, despite it being a low end lens, it is a good intro to zoom lenses, a worthwhile investment at under 3 figures if a longer lens is on your 'maybe' list - if you aren't totally sure it is what you want or whether you would use one enough to warrant a much bigger and better investment. Oh, and I wouldnt buy it for its macro ability, that is very limited, though not unuseable. ;)

Its that price because it isnt the best Sigma 70-300. The Apo DG macro is more.

£160 would more likely be the APO, even 3 years back, which is significantly better than the non APO version. Think how that reflects on the non APO lens considering how the APO was...

nope, its non APO, I still have it, even though I no longer use it. The APO was more at the time and I couldnt afford it. Mind you, back then i had no idea what the difference was anyway.

edit: also had no idea where to get the best deals either, though i recall a friend bought an APO version a couple of months later for just over the £200 mark.

Ah ok, my APO cost me £180 I think it was in about June 2005, I recalled the non APO models being nearer £120.
