For Gods sake, i took the bleedin picture, the camera aint automatic,
I DO HAVE TO BE THERE :bang:

BUT you do have a nice camera :D

md:lol:

It is because people are ignorant, they have no concept of what makes a good or bad photo, only that bigger=better in terms of size and megapixels

That sounds like a challenge ... who can get a really good pic with a very basic camera.

I've got an Oly mju300 I can try with

you've got to have an eye for a good composition - like i said the camera is just the tool.

I have had that a couple of times...
Someone said it to me at work once so I handed them my camera and asked them to take a photo.... needles to say they didn't even manage to get a shot off.

its true mate alot of people see a good photo and think it must ahve come from a good camera...

i sometimes get a similar thing when folk's see my camera " whoo look at that thing you must be good" how wrong they are.. the camera means nowt imo the final image does....

You need.....

I love it when people think their 12mp P+S must be better than my 8mp 30D :D:D

It's soooooo annoying, I've had it a few times.

I wonder if anybody looks at a painting and says "I bet he has some nice brushes".

Next time some one says that, tell them you took the shot with your camera phone and all you did was set it to 'professional mode'.

LOL! I think people we're more intelligent in the hay day of the painting, but i would hedge my bets folks these days probably would.

Of course they did, this has been going on for centuries. People used to say to Shakespeare "You must have a nice quill".

It was even on the news over here last week. Opening line of the story..

'With advancements to digital cameras, taking professional photographs these days is easy.'
I remember some BBC Radio 4 programme years ago (probably 15 years ago!) when they were looking at some early steers-by-the-stars and predicts earthquakes autofocus SLR (was it Minolta who were the first?) - anyway the commentator said "A fine camera for producing 36 blurs in perfect focus".

::lol:

Yep. the episode was 'The Shakespeare Code' [googled - I'm not that sad!].

I think she told him his breath stank

Thanks:thumbs:

Given it was 400 years ago I would think it was more than just his breath that stank.

He did have a nice quill though didn't he.

Now aren't you just fuelling the argument that the camera does make the photo?

I was sure that was the very point the OP was getting exercised about . . .

I've had the same said to me many times.
I just smile and nod as I can't be bothered with an arguement.
It also makes me laugh when people with a P&S say 'why can't I do that with my camera' :D

i get that a lot

then when i handed my camera to my brother to take a picture of seasick steve and myself it was alll blurred and out of focus.
he said i thought this was auto focus...theres more to it than that

you should see the results my 5 year old neice got with my d300 after i gave her some instruction on the camera and falling light, some were as good as mine.of course it could mean shes good or im bad!

I was shooting at a gig and reviewing some of the shots with a band when a mandolin player said "Your camera takes nice photos". Without missing a beat I said "Your mandolin plays some nice music", the look on her face was great

I think the point that Betty was making is that people think 12mp must be better than 8mp

I know, but I thought it was funny that it might also be taken that DSLR is better than compact? In the hands of the right person either argument is true.

I was only meaning to be cheeky mind, not upset anyone. :)

This really gets on my wick. My 6mp D40 will outshine any P&S on the market. :bang:

My other half kept saying I take good pics as my camera is good. She had a go and changed her mind instantly.

Surely the camera will make a difference, only if, you compare the same shot, taken in the same conditions by the same person, at which point you are comparing the equipment fairly.

I never really got to grips with the settings on the Z2, the controls and operation were too limited. After having the 450d for 8 months and shooting 12000 frames I'm getting a grip on the controls, and a feeling for the results I'm likely to get before actually taking the shot (I'm not suggesting I can take good photos mind).

The camera will make a difference - as in if you buy a better tool you can use it in more ways, but at the end of the day they person looking through the viewfinder decides what scene to photograph.

Well, my walking stick takes me on some brilliant walks.

:D

Waiting to climb a mountain doesn’t make it any smaller or less steep

Yes, sorry Ian, I didn't word that well,. I was trying to say that in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing, the P&S would produce better results than an SLR in the hands of someone who doesn't, but to compare the gear, you need to have the same person doing the comparing, which will show what you say.
