Why not the EOS 1000D??

:help: Hi ive been following the prices of cameras for a while now, the Canon 1000D seams easily within anyones price range but why is no-one buying it?

I think its because most people here want Mid/semi pro body's and not Entry Level Body's (1000D)

Saying that, the 1000D is a great camera!
 
I pretty much agree with thehitmen.

It is a very good camera imo (then again im biased and havent had much time to play with better camera's) but as said it is a very entry level one which most people would outgrow and want to upgrade from within a year or so... he says 2 years later :lol:.
 
:wave: I got one. Only two things that (so far) bug me slightly about having a pauper's DSLR. One of which I've rectified.

It's small, but as of yesterday it's gripped, so problem solved.

And, no spot metering. Which I only discovered I would have liked last week.

Other than that, I love it. :thumbs:
 
Marketing psychology perhaps?

I think the theory is most people don't want to say they have the bottom of the range product in any market. So an entry level product that although may not sell a huge amount itself, could actually be partially driving sales for the one or two model up.

agree with both your points tbh, do wish it had spot metering. (im sure on some videos on youtube i have seen it is possible just a pain in the arse lol).

also got mine gripped too :)
 
I would suggest paying a bit more and getting a 450D (new) or a bit less and getting a used 450D.

The bigger screen, 9-point (rather than 7-point AF), spot metering and a bit higher resolution make worthwhile in my opinion.

Also (important for some people) is that the 1000D can only do 1.5fps when shooting RAW, the 450D can do 3.5fps
 
I have used the 1000D for the past year, and I have to say that it has done me well considering the price, and it came with the IS kit lens which was good to start with. The small size of it wasn't an issue to me as I have small hands..........and in actual fact, i've just upgraded to the 40D this week and if anything, the 40D seems bit too big for me.....but maybe I'm just not used to it yet.

The 7 point AF wasn't too bad I thought, and the image quality produced was excellent. The main downside was the RAW shooting rate because it was noticably slow and not possible to do continous shooting. I think like someone else mentioned, many people who are in the market for a DSLR, don't "want" the bottom end model.....I only bought it at the time because I was entering the SLR world and it was at a good price, and I think many don't give the 1000D enough credit.

Now that I do have a 40D though, I need to find a new home for my 1000D :)
 
some people dont have hands the size of the average child and so dont find it fits in their hands that well.

Its still a cracking entry body though, perfect for a teenager imo to learn on if the parents are on a tight budget.
 
I've got one with a lens 10 times the price of the body on the front sometimes, never did me any harm. Mine has the 17-55mm IS f/2.8 living on it most of the time, no complaints here.

I think cameras like the GF1 etc will slay a lot of the entry level market for dSLRs, but as long as it still works I'll keep using the 1000D.
 
Yeah, I definitely think that lens counts for a lot more than the body.......it's more for functionality and quicker shooting. I would definitely prefer a 1000D + high quality lens over a 40/50D + lower quality lens.

I probably didn't even need to upgrade my body from 1000D to 40D, but thought it was about time to take the next step on my journey.
