Looking to get a new Nikon camera -preferably a D700. What is a mystery is that across Europe there are freebies such as flashguns, grips etc. In the US there are lens deals/bundles. Why nothing in the UK?

Probably because you are not registered with Nikon as a pro-user. I received an email as did many other people on this site informing them if they purchased a D300s between mid November and mid January, you would receive a free SB900 flash by sending the personalised voucher from the email along with a copy of the receipt.
Mine came bundled with 24-120 vr, at jessops for £1995 nearly a year ago.
I know its much maligned, but I think its ok, plus if you have no other Nikon lenses at least you can fire away straight away!
To be honest I think its a good lens, Ive had some cracking results with it.
It cost £599 when I bought mine, so all in all it was a good deal, well happy here.
I bought my D700 second hand from Mifsuds and have had no problems whatsoever. Given, there is a potential warranty issue but as I have never had to return a Nikon body I am not too worried about that and I saved myself £300. Given how quickly digital bodies depreciate I don't mind going second hand and saving money to spend on lenses.
Just my thought on reading the first post
We pay the most because they know we'll pay it, i'd love it if we ALL shopped abroad for everything small size through the net and is one reason i'm buying a lens through Onestopdigital (hongkong)
