Why no D80's??

Why is no-one (shops/online shops) selling the D80 anymore? I know that they have brought out the D90 but alot of people cannot afford to upgrade straight to that. I currently have the D40x and feel the jump to a D90 is too great (and I can't afford it) and a D60 isn't really that much of an upgrade from a D40X, why is there nothing in the middle??

I know you can buy 2nd hand but I would prefer not to.

Go second hand, most places offer decent warrenty on used goods. If not then im afraid its the D90, or switch to Canon

It looks as if supplies of the D80 are drying up, but I'm sure there will be some shops sitting with a few still on the shelves somewhere...

i'm sure if you look hard enough you'll be able to find one, but i do know what you mean. now the d90 is out nobody seems bothered about the D80 now. :(

Buying a D80 new now isn't very economical, its only really worth it 2nd hand as the difference between the D80 and D90 new isn't that much...

It's a £200 difference in price which to me is quite alot.
Only reason I want to upgrade is for the autofocus motor in camera and the extra Af points.

Apparently having bad eyesight long distance and manual focusing has a blurred effect on my photos

Still a few about on e-bay if you're willing to take a chance!

You could always opt for a Fuji S5Pro, which is basically a Nikon D200 with different internals - £428 new and far superior to the D80 :)

Whispers so her bank doesn't hear.....

...Now thinking of just going all in and getting a D90, problem is with the new price hikes I would have to get it soon which would mean putting £400 on my plastic friend who is already carrying alot of weight.
I can get it from park cameras and I think they would part exchange on my D40X but it just annoys me that I cannot get anything new inbetween, why don't Nikon take out the video stuff from the D90 (afterall if I wanted to make a video I would buy a video camera) and reduce the price abit.

Ohh i don't know.

Do the nikon lenses fit the Fuji??

Well unless I'm looking at a different camerapricebuster to you, there aren't any at £428 and even the cheaper houses don't have any stock.

Jessops have it for £439 which is around that price, not available for home delivery but is available to collect at store.

Ah, so there aren't 'quite a few' at around that price. Thought you may have known something I didn't ;) Incidentally, I've tried every Jessops store I can think of and none of them has the Fuji S5Pro in stock. Do you know of one?

Devon camera has it for £449 http://www.devoncamera.co.uk/index.cfm/photographic/Products.Details/product_id/1360

Not sure if any of their shops are close to you as I see you are in devon so you might not need to pay postage.

I am seriously considering buying this camera but I am not sure. I assume it is far superior to the D40X. Alot of reviews mention that it is abit slow, does anyone know if this is the case? I do not photograph sport but do sometimes shoot fastmoving animals.

The nearest Devon Cameras to me is Exeter (90 minutes drive away) but the shop there is bit of a disaster I'm afraid. It's quite small and they carry very little stock of anything has been my experience. The link you posted is their online shop and the last I spoke to them they didn't have any stock and weren't expecting any in the forseeable future. I have a strong suspicion that unless you're prepared to pay megabucks, you just ain't going to get a FujiS5Pro - which is what prompted my origiinal question of who's got a S5Pro for £428.

Park cameras appear to be in stock at £470. I know it's more than £428 but it's still not bad.

Also wondering how the fujifilm compares to the D90 if anyone has any knowledge of this :)

jessops were still selling them (D80's) a week before xmas but seem to have dried up now (i got mine for £390 which seemed a bargain, might've been one of the last ones though), I saw one in Argos but i think it was around £600 or something crazy.

I checked argos and they don't have any now either.
I have seen a 2nd hand D80 for £350-£380 would that be a fair price for one 2nd hand?

Hmmm.... call me cynical, but I'm willing to bet they don't have them in stock either. To be perfectly honest, I'm not that fussed whether I get one or not I was just intrigued at the prices being quoted. I do have a D80 and was tempted with the S5Pro for landscapes and portraiture but the price will have to right. I'm a Canon man mainly but only because of the arsenal of lenses I've collected and I have no particular loyalty to any of the marques, I just like taking pictures and don't really care what with. Now you wouldn't like to buy a low use, unmarked (pristine even) D80/18-70mm plus Nikon grip would you.................... ;)

I have been hunting for a D80, I think the price you mention is abit steep. I have seen one on another forum for £300 but the seller did not have a long trading record haf only sold one item, which I was abit nervous about so I stayed away. Gutted I did not get the jessops deal at xmas :bang:

howler in tjhe classified section hasd a 12 month old D80 seems gto be in good conditon found it while looking through the site..

know that second hand isnt really wanted but the camera seems to be ok. hope you take a look

I found one!

It was sort of new, camera warehouse for £350 which is what they are selling for 2nd hand and I get the security of it being a shop. Was surprised they still had it as it has been advertised in a couple of mags in their demo clearance.
It is an ex-demo model excellent condition, they advised it is brand new condition as rarely used and still under guarantee.

 I assume you mean a D80, if so make sure you get the 2 year guarantee, a 1-year one means it's a refurbished camera....

I bought my D80 just before Christmas it was ex-demo model excellent condition with a 18-70mm for £389 :)right place at the right time for once
