Why is there a Nikon/Canon debate?

My view...

I hate Cannon and all of its users!

Only kiddin, your just as good as us Nikon users ;) :D

I'd own either, both have pros and cons. I just prefer the feel of a Nikon.

A lot of it comes down to feel. When I started with Nikon, it was film and the reason I chose it was that it felt more comfortable in my hand. The grip on the side of the camera was wider and I felt I had a better grip. That was a Nikon F90. Didn't get a Nikon digital but instead got the Fujifilm S2Pro.

I also liked the weight of the Nikon cameras. They were nice and heavy and felt solid.

That is why I am a Nikon fan. And it is always good to pop fun at Canon users.

For all practical purposes you do own a Nikon 'cause Nikon supplies the bodies to Fuji:naughty:

Compare the D200 and the S5 side by side and you will see the same thing.

Problem is that, despite being nice and heavy, the Nokins are so angular and otherwise ugly, I doubt they will fly very far when properly thrown...

Have you noticed how the Nikon smiley is better at hitting than the Canon one? It's also better looking and quite clearly more intelligent too! :D

Ah, but the quality of the canon hit is far superior than the Nikon one, also the bat has a better build and is more user freindly.:lol::lol:

I chose Nikon because my uncle gave me an FM2 to get started and a bunch of Nikon lenses. When I switched to digital, I just stuck with Nikon to get use out of the older lenses I had.

Honestly, whatever brand your camera is, if you get good results, that's all that matters. :)

Nikon, Canon... brands aside, I just love photography.

I think at this point we should spare a thought for the poor Pentax owners:'( At least us Canon/Nikon owners have each other to poke fun at!

I think all you Olympus owners (yes all three of you!) should make it your daily duty to poke fun at a Pentax owner so that they at least feel wanted:thumbs:

Is there anyone who really CARES?

You have bought the kit, whatever make, whatever the reason.... now go out and make the best of it!

At the end of the day "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"!

I feel that a camera is just a tool of my trade! I have many camers of different makes and types both film and digital in my tool room. I just use the best tool for the job at hand.

Anton I like your avatar! Do you shoot pro? I am into clays and do a bit of sporting clays.

Hi Dave:wave:

Not quite pro but call it "keen amateur":D

Good to see another gun lover on here:D:thumbs::D

yea just a bit of bannter both I think are great cameras and if I had gone the other way I think I would have been happy with them and probably biased towards them abit. but I think unless you are minted once you make your choice you stick to it. and lets face it 99.99% of us could not tell which pics came from which cameras

Come and tell my D3 that if you think you're 'ard enough... :woot:

Howabout you post a 100% crop from a night time 1600 ISO exposure of 4 sec or longer - with or without noise reduction.

:D:thumbs::naughty:

O.K. all banter aside I really would like to see the D3's high ISO performance from a real life shooter as the camera does make a lot of business sense.

For me at least:thumbs::D

The D3's high ISO performance is the best on the market at the moment.Simple.
Why do people argue about it?Will it be this time next year? Who knows?
I was reading some of the posts on the Canon Users forum earlier. Its so funny how people care about it like its some kind of personal thing.
"Its only achieved by using software","Il never sell my Canon","Ive heard some pros are making the switch Oh my god" yeah but no but yeah but...
Who cares.
The technology is moving on so fast that in 18 months time youl all be saying the D3 is old and crap.
Just get out there and take some pictures.

:agree::agree::agree:

And in 18 months some folks will still be churning out absolute stunners with 10D's and D70 Nikons while some will sulk about the budget and how to afford the 1Ds Mk VII N...

:bonk:

In the spirit of friendly banter I would just like to say 'If anyone can Canon can...

... but Nikon can do it BETTER!'

But what do I know? I still shoot film!

Bought my first digital less than a month ago and that's a...

specially modified... Fuji!!!

And my wife uses a 3mp phone!!!

Remember, even in this technological age it's still not the camera that SEES the pic.

Its so funny how people care about it like its some kind of personal thing.

For some it is a personal thing, they aren't used to being obviously 2nd when it comes to cutting edge, gear of the moment technology, best form of defence is attack.
Silly thing is, theres never been much more the the width of a hair between both sides, despite all the marketing rumour mongering.
I dont waffle on about canon body/glass shortcomings, cos I really dont care, I dont feel threatened by anything they produced, and never have.
They should just take P2 on the chin, accept it and forget it, in 6 months time it might be a different story.

Yea maybe, but Nikon's bounce better:lol:

Canon and who?

Us Olympus users never enter into the banter as we are usually out there actually using their cameras, rather than talking about them.
I've yet to see an Olympus used professionally at any of the sporting events I’ve covered in the last 4 years - not a Pentax either - just Canon :p and Nikon - about half and half. :rules:

Lenses – Canon, Nikon and Sigma

It would be nice to mix and match Nikon/Canon lenses (Nikon 200-400f4? – great range) – I don’t see how that could work really as the Nikons have such small lens mounts (to match the small sensors):rules:. On the other hand what was Canon thinking in creating a WHITE lens to use with wildlife? (500mm f4 /600mmf4?) :cuckoo:Why not put a flag on your camera and wave it at the animal?:bonk:

Competition between the camera makers is good for us and a bit of light banter with the underdog :baby:should help them upgrade to the market leader….:canon::canon::

Nah, your mistaken !

Of course you forget the most important debate

CADBURYS or GALAXY

Galaxy.

Britney or Christina?

Just to add my £0.02:

One thing I really like about TP is that, whilst many people obviously have preferences for one type of camera or another, the advice given to newcomers is almost invariably well-balanced and unbiased. Long may it remain so!
