Why is the LED light on a G Drive so bright?

Yes
Is there any way to turn down the LED light on a G Drive? It's so bright and annoying when it's flashing away just outside my eye line. I'm guessing the options are:
  • put a bit of tape over it (it lights up the inside of the case too)
  • put something in front of it to cover it over
  • move it out of my eye line (mydesk isn't huge so it's currently located under the screen)
Any other ideas? How do others deal with this?

Yes some manufacturers have such obnoxious lighting.

Short of opening it up and adding an inline resistor your best bets are moving or covering.
I thought it was a long shot at there may be a dimmer switch in software somewhere (more hoping than actually thinking there would be one). I will try covering the light for a while, if that doesn't solve things then moving is the only option.

I was annoyed by the 4 LEDs on my old WD NAS, which would light up the room at night. But I found a simple setting to switch it off. But only after first faffing around with tape or putting it behind books and things.
