Hi all,

Out for a stroll with the family and camera today. Didn't find anything that exciting to shoot but had some practice time with the 10 stop.

Uploaded the pics when I came home to find that all the images have orange marks on them in a ring shape. I have used this filter before and not had the rings. I can't think of anything I have done differently. Should I have covered the view finder? The filter is a good fit against the holder so I don't think light is getting in that way.

Cokin Z-pro filter holder, Format hitech filter and a tameron 10-22 lens.

One more question. It was very windy. Camera was on a carbon tripod set low and wide but the images don't seem sharp enough. My focusing skills or has the wind vibrated the camera slightly?

Thanks. Images below.

Looks like a reflection of the lens in the orange filter.

:)

That would be my guess, light leaking in.

It should make no difference when the mirror is raised.

Covering the viewfinder is mostly to aid metering during the exposure.

:)

Anyone else have any ideas? I was shooting kind if in to the sun. Could this be the answer?

Err........ Hang on. In 3 I was shooting away from the sun and it has still happened.

I think I'm going to have to take some shots Tom to see if it happens again.

I'd say light leak. Or possibly poor quality filter. How good a fit is the Cokin/HiTech?

You must always cover the viewfinder, but that looks like a leak around the filter. Mainly - it's in the sky too.

The Hitech ProStop also has an infrared polution problem (makes blacks go brown, amongst other things) and there's evidence of all three in the last shot.

Looks to me like light's got in behind the filter and has illuminated the front of the lens enough for it to be picked up by the camera. At a guess, the WB has been altered slightly, possibly to compensate for a slight colour cast introduced by the filter which has resulted in the image of the lens being rendered orange. Leaks through the viewfinder register like this

on my D700 and needed a powerful torch to be shone directly into the VF.

One possible solution to the problem if it is light leakage behind the filter is to seal the gap using insulating tape (black for preference) or BluTak (or similar). The filter will need cleaning afterwards to remove any glue/tak residue but should block any light.

That's the filter I have. Looks like a case of you get what you pay for. Will have to save for a Lee big stopper:bang:

For now I shall try and get a better seal on the holder. It does look good but can obviously be improved on.

Thanks all for the help.
