Last weekend I was shooting at a motorsport event with my son, there was a car he wanted a picture of so he moved into position and waited patiently.

A few people saw he was trying to get the shot and stayed out of the way except this one woman with a pushchair and glass of beer who looked at him and then stood in the way.

He came up to me after a few minutes and said he wasn't going to bother and she promptly moved out of the way to which a couple of people commented on her being a bit rude.

He still got the picture later anyway.

Later at the same meeting a few of us were taking our photos when the photographers at the trackside of the fence came up and stood in front of us to get their pics. One of them kept looking to see where people were behind her and moving into their way, if they moved she moved.

At one point she wasn't even taking photos just dangling the camera around in a bored fashion.

This seems to be happening more and more just lately. I could understand it if it was a big event and lots of people were trying to get the same shot but this was just bloody mindedness.

If I see someone trying to get a particular photo I generally keep out of the way until they are done as do most other photographers I've met.

what are you talking about?

My wife and I have pushed a pushchair around for 3 years and we've certianly never felt like we were royalty - the pushchair has zero to do with ignorant people.

This is why we were given elbows. Someone gets in your way, for no reason bar to annoy or put you off, use those elbos to get past them. "Sorry, didn't see you there" along with.
 
Unfortunately there are annoying and rude people the world over, only last night I had a few of my firework photo's ruined because some numpty decided it was perfectly fine to climb over the gate where I was to trespass onto the field (no right of way) to see the fireworks, not that they would have got any different a view from the fields as to the track that I was stood on, that and some people are just rectal openings

Yeah - I should have googled it to start with. You're absolutely right.

It reminds me of one particular episode of ST.

It was an episode which explored the origins of myth and legend. One of the finest pieces of thought provoking TV I've ever seen - completely transcended scifi.
 
I know how the OP feels, I was at Waddington airshow earlier this year and had gone early enough to get my gear set up, right up to the crowd line, and get comfortable to wait for the flying. About 10 minutes after the flying started a couple of guys turned up on the other side of the barrier, set up a massive tripod, video camera and a couple of seats right in front of us. They were apparently the 'official' videographers so they just ignored me when I asked if they could move 15 feet further to one side, where they wouldn't be in anyones way, and block a ticket paying customer.

I will be going again next year and hopefully I'll be able to get a better view without anyone getting in front of me, specially as I want to see as much of the Vulcan as possible.
 
I have cured one lady of it :) At a cycling road race series a couple of years ago, I was booked by the organisers to cover the race and they also used the images to check the finishing order. Well, for the first two races of the season, the wife of one of the competitors stood directly in front of me, with the pushchair next to her, holding up her phone to get her picture of her hubby, she always moved into position just before the riders came into frame, so gave me no time to move. I managed to get shots round her, but it was a bloody nuisance missing part of the road and tricky to get finishing order for the organisers.
Anyway, third race and there she is again, right in front of me, so this time I included her in the shot, but very wickedly increased the size of her backside in photoshop and included them in the gallery. She never did it again.
 
i believe its down to arrogance...... and how some people seem to possess soo much of it its unbelieveable!!

What ever happened to manners? I always just politely ask if they would mind moving over just slightly so I could get the shot I patiently waited for.

LOL, well good manners from myself and the organisers asking her not to impede the finish, not only for reasons of them getting the results, but safety reasons hadn't worked & a person and pushchair in the road (she didn't stand on the verge like everyone else) at the end of a road race is very dangerous, it would have only taken one rider not concentrating and there could have been an accident. Oh, and I only added on about an inch, so barely noticeable really :)

Too complex to answer why and not one specific reason but will be a combination of declining standards, lack of discpline, greed from Thatcher era, peoples sense of entitlement and so on.
 
But has been said before, why should a photographer feel he/she has any more right to to have "their shot"
 
It is not about rights, it is about how people are interacting in society.
 
At least we're all the type of people that walk along in a world of our own, accidentally step into the frame, realize it and panic to get out... then feel awkward :lol:

The only time I've had a real problem with this sort of behaviour is when I've been doing pics for a local history group. They have one member who seems to think it's hilarious to stand behind people (usually professional historians, archaeologists and visiting speakers) and pull faces or deliberately step in front of the camera every time he sees me taking a shot.

But what really annoyed me that everytime the group's newsletter was published he'd moan about how his picture never appeared and complain that he was being ignored, despite being one of the longest serving members of the club. So for the next issue we called his bluff and printed a page of pictures showing the back of his head or him leering into the camera with a finger up his nose etc.

Apparently he wasn't happy with that either. People eh? :bang:
 
luckily I don't think I've met any people like this. being Chinese and looking like a tourist probably helps :D

was at Leicester fireworks on Saturday, found a good spot and set up tripod. then just left the camera there on it waiting (camera's bloody heavy! ). saw many people doing the awkward dive in front of the camera. :D

when the firework started, the crowd were nice enough to leave a gap in front of us even though we were on a slop. this allowed me to take a few shots with myself/gf in the foreground, fireworks in the background.

On either side? :naughty: That's what Photoshop was designed for LOL.

I remember standing around for AGES waiting for the Tour de France to come through our town. Then as it got nearer the time, bucket loads of people turned up, most of them with compact or phone cameras and all stepped into the road, each one further into the road than the one in front. I couldn't see a blinkin' thing. Got a couple of rubbish shots, all over in seconds. Made me determined never to bother with that sort of thing again. Just go and watch! Different if you are being paid/there officially, though.
 
I see so many threads like this. Why does ANYONE occupying public space think they have more right to be there than the next person?
And if your in a "spectators" enclosure and there are others occupying an "officials" area just bite the bloody bullet! Yeah some will take the opportunity to be tools when given the power but for the most part there is nothing anyone can do about either scenarios.

Imagine if it was your full time job and some spectator with their smart phone comes and gets in the way of your shot, owch.

I did ask the lady with the pushchair if she would mind moving but she just glared at me as if I'd asked to photograph her naked.
