Yes
ok im an avid sony user, but every now and then i get the urge to sell my equipment and go to nikon. maybe its because i was going for nikon in the first place but went for sony instead, has anyone else had the urge?

No started with Nikon to save all the hassle.

I changed very recently, not because I particularly like Nikon, just what they're offering just now.

i now wish i started with nikon, the trouble is i would love to sell my equipment and buy nikon stuff but i wouldnt know where to start. i would be happy with a bloody d40/d60 35mm and 50mm along with a jessops 360afd flash. if i could get that in a swap it would be brilliant.

yes come to the dark side, we have cookies. (apparently) .

i started with a d60, then got offered a 20d canon package i couldn't say no to, loved it, but the main reason i jumped was the money, got offered £150 more than i payed for the d60, and saved about £400 buying the 20d package!

now wishing i could get a nikon body to use canon's glass, as the canon glass appears more available, better value for money, yet the nikon bodies whoop the canon's!! dilemma or what!

Thank God I shoot Canon then, because I don't think I could handle any more sex! ;)

Same here, I'm thinking I need to change back :p

i think i'd need something simple like a d40, with the 35mm f1.8 and nikon 50mm f1.8 but that would be about the same price for my sony gear and my sony gear is better so what is the point.

Did someone mention extra curricular activities?..............I mean Nikon :)

Currently evaluating D700's vs my current Canon kit and calculating price differentials. Trouble is I'd want a D3 if I did go......

when you put it like that, none ;)

cheers dod;)

i dont think i will go to the yellow dark side and instead work on my photography, i might actually sell the a300 and buy an a200 so i can save cash and buy a new lens.

Yes, I hear a British citizen in China recently waved it.. he was subsequently executed. :p

OP - I guess it depends what range is more 'expandable' and suits you better. If you want a nikon just because of the label, then print off a nikon label and superglue it on.

If you want a Nikon because it would make you a better photographer, for which you can only be the judge of that, go for it.

cheers jamesbuk, i dont think im gonna get a nikon, it probably is due to just wanting the label and i dont really like the camera line up of the nikon, i would be starting of with a camera lower spec then what i have now so i might aswell keep with sony.

badge chasing is not a good way to select any equipment...

panasonic do good cameras.

ps i had nikon bodies and lenses when i did 35mm...and some other makes

the lens is the part to consider..i found fuji lenses paramount

Does this:olympus: ever get used :)

I have seen it a few times. Won't see it from me though :)
I would like to claim to not understand the whole brand debating thing but I have been just as guilty regarding non-photography kit :)
I do try to ignore the "must have a Canikon to be a pro" some people/agencies spout too but sometimes fail LOL
Luckily there is that other photo site to visit where hardened gearheads will tell you brand x is rubbish while having a gallery full of rubbish pics to make me feel better ;)

Talking of feeling better I am off for a few jars - happy new year all :)

is still true - but not as true as it was. When we shot film the body was only a way of getting correctly exposed & focussed light onto the film - nowdays its the lab as well, so it does affect more then it used too.

You like Nikon because it's not spelled Canon. and yes we do have cookies on the dark side.:nikon:

:olympus:

Never been tempted to switch brands myself, I love my Oly kit, the Zuiko lenses are brilliant and I love the E3 too.

brings me back to the days of the OM2 and OM4, lovely cameras but the Zuiko's were something else

They were indeed lovely - I had an OM-1n and an OM-2n, but they kept getting smashed - well I broke each of them and figured I needed something stronger - that's when I bought a 2nd-hand Nikon F2-AS and apart from a 'gifted' Canon A-1 which was accidentally dropped into 20ft of seawater (then retrieved, rinsed-out, dried and sold on in a hurry!), I've never looked back.

All the major manufacturers can produce great kit. The development budgets for both Canon and Nikon must be enormous.

Those two in particular wish to remain in business and will continually try to out do each other in the specification stakes.

I am sure the photographer who the kit is aimed at will be a more significant variable than the difference between the cameras.

Bodies come out with alarming regularity. And you will upgrade.

So don't make buying decisions on just one body at one particular time. You have to consider which lenses you would require and how easily they would be to obtain if buying second hand. There is little doubt that Canon lenses seem to be much easier to source.

Finally, you might find that your current equipment does not sell for as much as you might hope and it might be academic.

You bought your Sony for a reason. I'd say get out there and use it myself.

good point blue max, i bought sony because it was a good deal at the time and i did like the look at the carl zeiss lenses. i think the thing thats bugs me is that i wish sony would have some cheap 35mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8 versions, even if they were DT, you see im only 16 and have so much trouble getting money so i cant even afford the carl zeiss or even minolta versions.
