Yes
...insist on having different names for the cameras in different territories?

I was reading some comments on the D3100 announcement on Gizmodo, and I had to look up what a Canon T2i was...Turns out it's a 550D...and a EOS Kiss X4 in Japan?! :gag:

Yes I'm a Nikon user, and I have nothing against Canon cameras or their users, I just can't understand all these different names...Do they actually think people will judge their cameras on their names instead of their features and performance? Bleh, nevermind. Discuss.

americans can't understand numbers? because the hipster teenage girls like the name 'rebel'? because 'kiss' goes well with the national obsession with hello kitty? we will never know... :D

Can get confused with what your Canon camera is known in the country you are visiting, or you can bring your "Canon Camera Naming Guide" (Available in Japanese, US, and Rest of World versions :p ) along with you?

Same thing with many cars eg. Mazda MX5 = UK/Europe, Eunos = Japan, Miata = USA. All down to the marketing guys I guess.

Best live with it. All I can say is Marathon >>>>> Snickers

does the Kiss X4 come with some sort of wiggly tongue mode

walkers crisps are lays everywhere in the world, it doesnt really matter, marketing departments do all manner of stupid stuff that they think will appeal to people in that country.

sometimes names of products need to be changed as the words offend in different languages.

it really doesnt matter, on the plus side atleast you know if your buying a grey import canon body from japan or america...

Who cares.

I just thought it would be a good topic of conversation was all. I care because it gets annoying when reading US sites involving Canon cameras and I have to look up the name >.<

It's all about th marketing men, or if they've bought a brand that's well known, or even if it means something odd in the local language. The vauxhall nova was the corsa in Europe because move means 'doesn't go' in Spanish (or so I heard).

Alternatively they just thought they'd keep us talking about the brand by confusing us with different names!

Also in Spain, never import a 4 x 4 by Mitsubushi called a Pajero, it means someone who 'self pleasures' and rhymes with banker  Sorry, had to get around the swear filter!!

Do they still use that? Was one of the main slogans when I was growing up. It was all over the place - remember the back page of Nat geo was always either Canon, Minolta or Pentax.

The Aussies call sellotape Durex... Seem's it's not just a Jasper Carrot joke after all.

How about some years ago when Arsenal got sponsored by SEGA, and had all the shirts printed with the logo, only to have them all changed to Dreamcast so they could play in Italy.
Dean:)
