Why bother?

Thirty images is way too many for one thread and if there are any good ones they get 'diluted' by the not so good shots, to be honest it looks more like a storyboard. Whilst you obviously have a passion for football and this team in particular it doesn't mean that everyone else on here does as well, I often have the same effect with my equine photographs. Personally I can't stand football but I do appreciate a good picture (as do many others on here) and to be brutally honest maybe that is why there were not many comments.

I can't believe I'm reading this!

You clearly don't have a eye for a decent photo then :cuckoo:

......because my gripe is about the fact that I put up a bunch of excellent photos on here and they barely merited a ripple.

*snip*

I must admit I was rather surprised to read the above comments, you obviously think think your images are of a high quality but coming out with statements like that will only get peoples backs up - critique is a two way street and you must be prepared to accept the good and the bad even if it does dent your pride.

....There were two away fans taking photos which have been posted on their website and compared to mine they look awful, I can say that cos I know a decent football photo when I see one.

*snip*

Again, (and I may be completely wrong and I apologise in advance if I am) but this is a very arrogant statement, maybe they have the same opinion of your photos.

Hacker beat me to this point...

The most staggering comment on here is "I put up a bunch of excellent photos on here "

They just aren't good shots m8 - end of - and as Hacker says, that's largely why people don't comment - to avoid hurting your feelings

You may love them, you may think you're a Photographic God - perhaps you'll just have to accept there are atheists out there who don't see it your way

So let's see a post of just one shot you think is brill for proper comment

I see plenty of football photos and I know whats good and whats not so good cos I take more than my fair share of the latter

They are though, thats just the point. My football photos are as good as any that I see posted here or many other places on t'internet given the odd exception.

It's my field and I know it well having had a great deal of experience over the past five or so years with D-SLR's. I don't often post photos elsewhere on these forums because I know what I'm good at and what I'm not. I don't feel that you're placed to tell me that they aren't good because as far as I'm concerned you're just flaming.

I have a rule that I steer clear of inflammatory threads as I don't like to get drawn into arguments or confrontation. But mate, you are seriously pushing me to the edge of my principles here! Just read that post again and think how that might be perceived by others, bearing in mind that DD is a professional photographer of the highest standard and is probably better placed to judge a good photo from a bad one than a lot of us here

Now this is a decent forum but as with all forums it's the members what make it what it is and when those members provide content and get no response it makes them wonder why the hell they bother.

I know it does me.

this is just a forum mate :suspect: "looks for members with pitch forks and fires"

and it is somewhere to share photos you have taken and hopefully help others with any advice that you / we can...

i often get alot of my threads with no comments for along time. like the one i put up saturday 71 views no comments but hey it does not make it a cr@p photo or a fantastic one...

so share and enjoy .

but mostly enjoy

md:thumbs:

The best football photo i have ever seen was Gaza getting defended by vinnie Jones
there was no ball in sight;

I have just looked, I must point out that football holds no interest to me before I say the following;

I looked at the first four and got bored, too many pics in one thread mate, just my opinion.

Another reason for the lack of response is the explosion of images posted on here due to the increase in membership. I try to follow and comment on the bird section for example, but it moves so fast now that it is hard to keep up with threads.

I`m sure your footy shots are excellent, just that I cannot comment because they hold no interest to me, none intended....

Edit...I posted an image of 4 sika deer hinds,Deer prancing is the title, now I adore that photo and think it is brilliant, it printed out superbly at A3 and is now hung in the game lodge. It drew very few comments on here, but planty whilst it has been on the wall........So what? I like it........That is all that matters.

It's a bit odd that you should tell people that they should like them, just because you think they should

I've had pictures that I think are nice when lots of people say that they suck; it's totally subjective. I'm not overly keen on HDR shots, for example, but I don't say that everyone else shouldn't like them.

/confused

Wrong shaped ball for me which is why I didn't comment, mind you, I haven't commented on anything for a while, there are a hell of a lot of photos going on here and there are plenty who haven't had comments (I had a thread in December that only got one comment but it didn't bother me too much)

Fact is, the forum is growing, you have to be patient.

But as has been said before, they don't hold much interest for me as it's the wrong sport for me which is why I didn't look.

He may well be but until he shows me a football or sporting photograph that that makes what I've posted look crap then his opinions on my photos hold no water as far as I'm concerned. He's just playing the big I am cos he's a pro and he knows he'll get the backing from posters on here.

Fair enough, but I can't help but feel that you'd have liked to have had more than a lukewarm response to it, I know I would've done.

It just irks me that there are things that I do to provide content online and I'm not on about this forum now take an absolute age to do in the first place and then prepare for publication and folks can't even be arsed to do just a few keystrokes to show their appreciation.

So only sports photographers should give critique then? OK, I agreed with him and I'm a sports photographer.

So do you take photos solely for displaying here? I'd like to think that all that time and effort is for other purposes as well.

I'm sorry but this type of attitude really just stinks. You absoutely CANNOT maintain the attitude that in order to offer critique on a shot the critic has to be able to do better. Surely you can see what an idiotic suggestion that is?!

I think you should definitly just stop replying and chill out a bit. Seriously.

Asking a genuine question here.....

Based on the quote above, how is someone like myself supposed to know whether they're qualified to comment on your shots? I read into your statement above that only experienced football togs can give criticism to your offerings.

Bob

tigerimages you have previous for being an arse, how about winding your neck in.

Personally, i dont care for footy photos, i cant tell if they are good or bad so i prefer not to pass comment.

Diddydave and the other negative comment folk are entitled to their opinions, if you dont want to get negative feedback, dont flaming ask!

now, if this thread can stay steady and calm, then all fine, if not, move on to another thread.

Seriously mate,it does not bother me one jot, people handing over spondoolies to buy a copy means a helluva lot more.......:D

Can I pre-nominate this thread for next years awards?

I rarely look in there at the moment as its pretty much off season for things that interest me. The only sports pics I am likely to comment on are the equestrian ones, and like many of the others football leaves me cold.
Lucky I did not look or try to comment though, as I am a long way down the ability order, so totally unqualified to have an opinion on them.

sorry, one step ahead of you already...might have to go a long way to get a better dummy spit:nuts:

I protest, you're just abusing your position.. whaa whaa whaa

:D

the colours are nice i suppose but apart from that they're far from "excellent"

but yeah too many photos to comment on and i'm not really a football fan so wouldn't have thought to have looked to be honest.

Sorry have to disagree with you there, feet up, cup 'o' tea and I'm sorry it has to be double chocolate chip cookies :p :D

At the end of the day, there are too many photos to comment on, I post pictures and the most comments I get is generally 3-4 with loads of views, but it doesn't get me down, if there were brilliant people would comment but that's life, I'm sorry but get over it.

Nope I take photos for use on my website. I occasionally show a few off on here or on one or two other forums. I also dabble in video and find it much more time consuming but worthwhile in the end.

You're missing my point. He hasn't critiqued them, he's just basically said that they're crap. If he wants me to accept that then I'll be happy to once he's shown me something of his own thats better.

sure its frustrating not to get feedback froms pics you post up on here, but are you for real mate? As others have already said, you really aren't doing yourself any favours here........

You've misinterpreted my point then, or maybe I could've worded it better. He's dismissed my photos just like that but there are some top notch captures on display there. If he wants to back up his opinion with something better from roughly the same subject then I'm happy to stand corrected, until then his damning opinion counts for nothing.

So you really were just looking for a quick ego massage.
